Theos is one of the topics in focus at Global Oneness.
Assigning the twelve sons of Jacob in the Hebrew system to the signs of the zodiac, Reuben is ascribed to Aquarius, who is "unstable as water"; also associated with Rimmon, the god of storms and rain (SD 2:353), and equated with Ganymede.
God-taught; used in Christian writings, e.g., "Ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another" (1 Thessal 4:9); also applied to Ammonius Saccas, the founder of the Neoplatonic Eclectic School at Alexandria in the 4th century, because he was taught by divine wisdom.

 John 1:1
As the theos who is over all is theos with the article not without it, so the Word is the source of that reason (Logos) which dwells in every reasonable creature; the reason which is in each creature is not, like the former called par excellence the Word.
The phrase at John 1:1 "kai theos en ho logos" simply must mean "and the word was god" or "the word was divine" or "the word was deity" where all three translations are intended to convey that the word was the deity of the Deity, the essence of God.
The NT says that theos een o logos [the word was God], but it does not say o logos een o theos [the word was the God], and it is this last which is really suggested to the English mind by "Jesus is God.".

Theon is the accusative of god, and theos is the nominative case — this means that Theon is a direct object, and theos is a subject.
Theos cannot be the direct object of the sentance, so it must be a predicate, and descriptive of the subject.
In the case of Jn 1:1 the phrasing is *theos En ho logos, where the subject is clearly the noun with the article, *ho logos, and *theos, which has no article, must be a predicate word.

For An Answer: Christian Apologetics - Theos as a Count Noun
Rolf Furuli, though claiming that theos is a count noun in John 1:1c (and thus "must be either definite or indefinite"), does not offer a specific methodology for determining whether a given noun is mass or count.
Our position is that it [theos] must always be a count noun, either definite or indefinite, unless it is used metaphorically for the purely qualitative sense afforded either by simile or by a poetic (nonliteral) use of it as a generic appellation (Kidd, in Stafford, p.

THEOS also provides access to shared resources -- all screens can use the same printer at the same time, for example.

He points out that the primary reason that Theos in John 1:1c is anarthrous is that Theos is qualitative, emphasizing nature rather than personal identity.
Had John written Theos with a definite article it would have contradicted what he wrote in John 1:1b which makes a distinction between the persons of Christ and the Father.
He concludes that Theos is definitely used of Christ in John 1:1, and 20:28, very probably in Rom 9:5, Titus 2:13, Heb 1:8, and 2 Pet 1:1, probably in John 1:18, and possibly, but not likely, in Acts 20:28, Heb 1:9, and 1 John 5:20.

eo15b - Some notes regarding the ancient Greek word theos, including its eventual origin and meaning. - eo15b.htm
Again, it might be that the word theos meant "he who sees" or "he who watches", or something similar - but there is also the possibility that theos was a derivative of Zeus or that had to do with "swiftness" or something similar (the verb theô meant "to run").
It must be understood that the word theos which was used in the Greek text of the New Testament, was a mere Greek word, and that it was not used only of the true God who is in Heaven.
The point here is that the Greek word theos was in no way "holy" but had many kinds of uses, and that it mostly referred to the Greek idols and that in some cases it also was used of men of flesh.

Part Two: Bowman's A Priori Objections, by Greg Stafford
Now, the meaning of THEOS in John 1:1c is uncertain to some (because of their trinitarian background) but no one objects to the fact that THEOS is being applied to HO LOGOS.
Likewise, in Titus 2:13 and 2 Peter 1:1 the referent of THEOS must be determined by exegesis of those texts, not by a priori abuses of statistics or by dogmatic prejudgments of what the authors were likely to say.
Since THEOS is generally reserved for the Father, if a text (containing THEOS) is ambiguous in terms of its referent, then it is right to ask, "Is this another instance of THEOS being applied to the One to Whom is it usually applied?" This is a legitimate question to ask when confronted with such texts.
