 TT Scale: Early History
The actual development of TT scale was begun in 1941, but was interrupted by the onset of World War II; therefore, its actual birth was delayed until the war ended.
A variety of track, turnouts, motive power, rolling stock and structures are now being produced in Europe and the United States to support TT scale, as many in the Model Railroad community have come to recognize that TT is truly the smallest practical scale, especially for the true kit and scratch builder.
Just for history's sake, it should be noted that TT was possible because of the smaller motors that were developed as a part of the war effort.

 Time::TAI - International Atomic Time and realisations - search.cpan.org
The TAI scale is defined with a well-known point at UT2 instant 1958-01-01T00:00:00.0 as calculated by the United States Naval Observatory.
Some pairs of these names refer to the same time scale, due to renaming of the underlying agency or transfer of responsibility for a time scale.
The relationships between these scales and TAI are defined by isolated data points, so conversions in general involve interpolation.

 D Suggested Time Scale Specification
Geocentric Coordinate Time; runs ahead of TT since 1977-01-01 at a rate of approximately 22 ms/year.
In the case of coordinate times (such as TCG and TCB) and TDB which are tied to an unambiguous coordinate origin, the default meaning of time values will be: time as if the observation had taken place at the origin of the coordinate time system.
The rationale is that raw observational data are most likely to be tagged by a clock that is synchronized with TAI, while a transformation to coordinate times or TDB is usually accompanied by a spatial transformation, as well.

 Re: A new scale? - Trains.com Forums
TT (1:120 scale) was started, IIRC, in the late 40's, mainly the work of a single enthusiast.
Since I was exploring various scales at the time, I purchased a couple of sets of trucks (one made of crude brass stampings, the other fairly well detailed white metal castings.) They have been gathering dust in my junk box for almost 60 years.
Once N scale took off, TT was doomed to its present status as an obscure scale for dedicated scratchbuilders.

 Rokal
In general, TT is a size of model train which is smaller than H0 but is larger than N. There is a minor difference between “European” standards for TT and “American” standards for TT.
Both use a track gauge of 12mm, but the Europeans built their trains to a scale of 3mm = 1 Foot while the Americans built to 1/10th of a foot equals a foot in the real world.
As with other German model trains, the train operator could create a model railroad which was fully automated, allowing many trains to run at the same time.
