TV3, which was intended to be Ireland's third terrestrial channel, took almost ten years to bring from initial planning to debut.
The original TV3 licence to broadcast was granted in 1990 to a consortium including members of U2 and the owner of the Windmill Lane Studios where the group had made many of their records.
However, as TV3 were trying to convince Irish cable and MMDS carriers to replace UTV with their channel, the new shareholders pulled out in 1995.

TV3 Television Network Limited is currently owned by European-based private equity firm Doughty Hanson and Co. since the end of August 2006.
A purchaser for this stake for (for €103 million), rights to buy ITV Plc's stake (for €103 million), and the remaining 10% (for €59 million) was announced on May 19 as Doughty Hanson and Co, a venture capital firm who are believed to be operating on the behalf of another firm.

Ireland has the forth highest rate of asthma in the world and levels are increasing- but it is more than 10 years since the then health minister, Dr John O Connell, promised all asthma medications would be provided free of charge ‘as soon as budgetary considerations allow’.
The study, conducted as part of a PhD by Scottish college lecturer Jill McCowan- a former winner of the Pride of Britain Carer of the year award for her work on asthma- is the largest of its kind on the technique which centres on the belief that asthma sufferers ‘overbreathe’.
Irish Buteyko practitioner Patrick McKeown told Ireland on Sunday that ‘while this therapy is not well known in Ireland, it has greatly reduced the number of attacks and symptoms experienced by thousands of asthma sufferers world-wide leading to a greater quality of life’.

UEFA announced today that TV3 and Viasat would share the rights in the three Scandinavian countries after an extensive bidding process, and a comprehensive evaluation by UEFA and its marketing partner, TEAM.
This decision means that all matches throughout the season will be televised in all three countries, with the top four matches per week shown on free-to-air broadcaster TV3, and all other matches aired on the Viasat pay-TV channel.
