In 1991, the decision was taken to establish a Swedish terrestrial TV channel and in 1992 TV4 formally started or rather, moved from satellite to terrestrial transmissions.

As Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic prepare to enter the European Union, their television markets have become increasingly interesting to Western advertisers and investors.
Polsat is owned by the local entrepreneur Zygmunt Solorz-Zak (whose other interests include the pay-TV platform Cyfrowy Polsat, the regional station TV4 and the telco Elektrim) and was arguably at its peak in the late 1990s when it regularly commanded an audience share of between 25 and 30 percent.
In his view, Poland is probably the biggest market in the region for cable subscription revenues, but "a lot of channels are under pressure to reduce costs." The Czech Republic and Hungary, on the other hand, are more stable, despite the fact that Hungary is "always under the threat of regulation."

TV4 plans to expand its schedule to 24 hours a day.
The only problem with night broadcasting is that for two weeks every Fall and Spring, Tele-X is in the Earth's shadow, and cannot be used during the middle of the night.
To counter this, TV4 is considering using another satellite.

In Poland last year, shares of public channels such as TVP 1, TVP 2, TVP Regional (TVP3) and Polonia increased by just one percent compared to 2000.
Meanwhile, small commercial channels TVN and TV4 were winners.

With the demise of millions of analogue installations across the UK, sparklies will be a fading memeory for many of you.
So here is a picture of TV4 (Poland) on Hotbird 13E taken during December 2003 complete with good old sparklies scattered liberally across the picture.
TV4 is on one of the weaker transponders at 13E, and signals regularly degrade during bad weather if my dish isnt exactly on target.

 Polish Market - Polsat to create a holding
Puls Biznesu reports that Polsat, the largest commercial television company in Poland, is planning to create a holding which will include the Telewizja Polsat television station, the PTE Polsat open pension fund, Invest-Bank, Telewizja Plus, a Catholic television station, and, possibly, Polskie Media (PM), the owner of the TV4 television station.
TV4 has been cooperating for a long time with Polsat, broadcasting its content.
At the moment, Polsat is not planning to augment its stake in Telewizja Plus; at the end of June Ster bought a 40% stake in the station from the Franciscan convent.

Highlights of the concert were shown in two 55 minute shows on Polish tv channel TV4 last night, which also featured songs from Art Garfunkel and Polish singer Kasia Kowalska.
This was actually new drummer Gordon Townsend's first gig with the band outside of the USA.
The channel can be viewed on the Eutelsat Hot Bird Satellite, and the show lasts for 2 hours including a set by Art Garfunkel.
