The Long Tail - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The phrase The Long Tail (as a proper noun with capitalized letters) was first coined by Chris Anderson in a 2004 article in Wired magazine [1] to describe certain business and economic models such as Amazon.com or Netflix.
The term long tail is also generally used in statistics, often applied in relation to wealth distributions or vocabulary use.
The Long Tail is a potential market and, as the examples illustrate, successfully tapping in to that long tail market is often enabled by the distribution and sales channel opportunities the Internet creates.

The dust tail consists of dust particles that have been pushed out of the coma by radiation pressure from the sun.
Compared to the ION tail, the dust tail is morphologically diffuse, and appears white or slightly pink (because the dust grains reflect sunlight slightly better at longer wavelengths than at shorter wavelengths).
The dust particles in the tail are individually in orbit about the sun, each with slightly less attraction to the sun than the nucleus because of the effect of radiation pressure.

 CG Article: Tail Bandaging
Wrap the tail about a third of the tail length and then wrap back down the tail so there are multiple layers of gauze, and you have used the entire one and a half rolls.
Roll the gauze around the tail then fold the gauze at the midpoint, bringing the free end back down the tail so the tail tip is sitting in a three-inch long nest of gauze.
The drawstring, which was as thin as fishing line, had cut into his tail to the bone, three quarters of the way around its circumference and half an inch up from the tip.

Cold Tail, Limber Tail, Dead Tail
The cause of limber tail is not known although it is thought to be associated with hard workouts (especially in underconditioned dogs), heavy hunting, and swimming or bathing in water that is too cold or too warm.
Ongoing studies suggest that limber tail is associaed with muscle damage in the tail with dogs examined early in showing elevated muscle enzymes eg., creatine phosphokinase.
Limber tail syndrome and "cold water tail" while known to those who work with hunting dogs, may not be familiar to veterinarians.

 Tail Rubbing - TheHorse.com
Tail rubbing is a condition resulting from the horse's rubbing back and forth on an object--such as a fence post, feed buckets, or water buckets--in order to relieve the itching, or pruritis, which might be caused by the eggs of pinworms that are laid around a horse's anal area.
Tail rubbing occurs in all regions and climates of the United States, although the problem is seen most often in warm and humid areas.
Tail rubbing, commonly known as rat tail, broken hair, or matted tail, most often can be a symptom of pin worm infestation.

V-tail - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In aircraft, a V-tail (sometimes called a "butterfly tail") is an unconventional arrangement of the tail control surfaces that replaces the traditional fin and horizontal surfaces with two surfaces set in a V-shaped configuration when viewed from the front or rear of the aircraft.
With fewer surfaces than a conventional tail, the V-tail is lighter and produces less drag.
The air flowing over the tail surfaces is also likely to be less turbulent.

 V-Tails
The effective area of a V tail for pitch stability is equal to the total area times the cosine squared of the tail's dihedral angle.
Depending on how much surplus tail the model had to begin with, the results may or may not be satisfactory.
The calculation for equivalent stability is a little more complex, because the apparent change in angle of attack to a given disturbance for the V and conventional tails are not the same.

 tail
`tail' accepts two option formats: the new one, in which numbers are arguments to the options (`-n 1'), and the old one, in which the number precedes any option letters (`-1' or `+1').
Use it to control how long `tail' follows the descriptor of a file that continues growing at a rapid pace even after it is deleted or renamed.
No matter which method you use, if the tracked file is determined to have shrunk, `tail' prints a message saying the file has been truncated and resumes tracking the end of the file from the newly-determined endpoint.

 The Tail of the Magnetosphere
Separating the two tail lobes is the "plasma sheet", a layer of weaker magnetic field and denser plasma, centered on the equator and typically 2-6 Earth radii thick.
However, in the tail itself the earthward flow has been harder to confirm and seems to be rather irregular, coming in fits and bursts, especially during magnetic substorms.
The diffuse aurora was discovered by the Canadian spacecraft ISIS 2 in 1972, and it expands and contracts as the tail lobes swell and shrink due to variations in the solar wind and its magnetic field.

 ANATOMY OF COMETS
Dust tail: composed of small (smoke-sized) dust particles driven off the nucleus by escaping gases; this is the part of a comet that is easiest to see, and is not as long as the ion tail.
The ion tail is composed mostly of ions of water, carbon monoxide, and cyanogen.
The gaseous ion tail is pushed straight away from the Sun by the solar wind, while the brighter dust tail traces the comet's curved orbit.

The theory of the Long Tail is that our culture and economy is increasingly shifting away from a focus on a relatively small number of "hits" (mainstream products and markets) at the head of the demand curve and toward a huge number of niches in the tail.

 Graded Tail
The many tails that we fill the sky with add color and action to our kites, but as many tails as there are to fly off of our kites, there are ways to make those tails.
To build your tail, you will need two yards of fabric (two contrasting colors, 36”x41”), some string (a foot or so...) and a patch of heavy reinforcing cloth is very nice as well (1.5oz or heavier, 4”x10”).
The construction of this tail uses ideas gleaned from conversations with George Peters, who did quite a bit to promote and increase awareness of color in all parts of the sky, Hugh (Stretch) Tucker, who has always been willing to try something new, and numerous other people too many to remember or acknowledge.

Charles River Radio Controllers - A V-Tail Design Discussion
Again, T-tails or tails with very low-set stabilators, like the F-4 Phantom fighter-bomber that have stabilators canted downwards to lower it's centre of lift, is probably the aerodynamically cleanest, but heavy, while the V-tails never are out of the wing wake, thus not ideal, but at the same time they are very difficult to stall.
The size needed is quite easy to find: If you have a conventional tail think of each surface as sides in a box, the stabilator being the bottom and the fin being the side, the width being the average width of tail and stabilator.
But, as fitting the stabilator to the tail cone is the lightest solution, they instead use stabilators canted upward, like they were part of a V-tail with a centre fin.
