Unicode   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
Unicode has become the largest and most complete character encoding scheme, serving as the dominant such method in the internationalization and localization of computer software.
Unicode has the explicit aim of transcending the limitations of traditional character encodings, such as those defined by the ISO 8859 standard which get wide use in various countries of the world, but remain largely incompatible with each other.
Unicode, in intent, encodes the underlying characters — graphemes and grapheme-like units — rather than the variant glyphs (renderings) for such characters.

HTML 4.0 (as well as XHTML and XML) documents are required to use the character repertoire and code points jointly defined by Unicode and ISO/IEC 10646: the Universal Character Set, as their primary ''document character set''.
In order to work around the limitations of legacy encodings, HTML is designed such that it is possible to represent characters from the whole of Unicode inside an HTML document by using a numeric character reference: a sequence of characters that explicitly spell out the Unicode code point of the character being represented.
Although any Unicode character can be referenced by its numeric code point, some HTML document authors prefer to use these named entities instead, where possible, as they are less cryptic and more widely supported by older browsers.

Help:Page name - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first character of the page name (outside the main namespace: after the namespace prefix) may or may not be case-sensitive, depending on the project.
If the first character of the page name is case-sensitive this is a link (to a different page), otherwise it is bold (a self link to this page).
Note that in the case of a prefix that is not a namespace for the software, and in the case of a second prefix, the case-insensitivity does not apply to the first character after this prefix, e.g.

Hypothetically, {{unicodeḗ}} (precomposed e with macron and acute above) and {{unicodeḗ}} (e followed by the combining macron above and combining acute above) are identical in appearance, both giving an e with macron and acute accent, but appearance can vary greatly across software applications.

Like IPA, SAMPA is usually enclosed in square brackets or slashes, which are not part of the alphabet proper and merely signify that it is phonetic as opposed to regular text.
The tables of languages are not harmonised so there are conflicts between languages.
However, with the advent of Unicode support for IPA symbols, the necessity for a separate, computer-readable system for representing IPA in ASCII becomes more and more unnecessary as Unicode support becomes more widespread.

So be aware that you create a new category if the capitalization beyond the first character is not the same.
