  Tactical frivolity
Tactical Frivolity is a tradition of public protest associated with "Pink Blocs," womanist and gay-themed marches that use drumming, samba, dance, radical cheerleading, clowns and fairies to create an atmosphere of festivity and humor during street protests.
The first Pink Bloc was formed in the Pink/Silver line of the World Bank/IMF anti-globalization movement protest on September 26 in Prague, Czech Republic.
Other Tactical Frivolity traditions include Reclaim the Streets and Carnival Against Capitalism.

Tactical frivolity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tactical Frivolity is a form of public protest employing whimsy.
Sometimes associated with 'Pink' and/or 'Silver' blocs or womanist and gay-themed marches, tactical frivolity blocs use drumming, samba, dance, radical cheerleading, clowns and fairies to create an atmosphere of festivity and humor during street protests.
Participants usually wear pink and silver costumes as a way of engaging the "carnivalesque" spectacle, and to differentiate themselves from other blocs that utilise different tactics, such as the White Overalls, Black Bloc and NGO marches.

Anti-globalization - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Although local police were surprised by the size of N30, law enforcement agencies have since reacted worldwide to prevent the disruption of future events by a variety of tactics, including sheer weight of numbers, infiltrating the groups to determine their plans, and preparations for the use of force to remove protesters.
After the November 2000 G-8 protest in Montreal, at which many protesters were beaten, trampled, and arrested in what was intended to be a festive protest, the tactic of dividing protests into "green" (permitted), "yellow" (not officially permitted but with little confrontation and low risk of arrest), and "red" (involving direct confrontation) zones was introduced.
Many, such as anarchists who participate in the Black Bloc tactic argue that breaking windows is not necessarily a violent action unless humans beings are harmed in the process.

 Blocking Movement
The bloc tactic involves activists who form an affinity group in order to provide solidarity, resist police repression, and carry out actions ranging from peaceful marches to targeted vandalism and the unarresting of other activists.
As such, what defines a bloc is not ideology but the utilization of particular bloc tactics prepared and executed by affinity groups.
As one pamphlet notes: “This must also have caused a real headache for the police, stretching their resources intellectually as well as physically… Bringing out water cannon and concussion grenades on people chucking Molotovs is one thing: doing the same against a pink-coloured Samba band lays the authorities wide open to accusations of heavy-handedness” (http://www.wombles.org.uk/background/lessons.php).

 sociology - Anti-globalization
Anti-globalizationists are sometimes perceived to be marginalized by mainstream media and governments because of their strongly "anti-business" views; most media across the world are owned by wealthy individuals or large corporations, who are believed by activists to have conflicting interests with the rest of society.
One of the bloodiest protests in Western Europe's recent history, resulting in the death of a young citizen of Genoa called Carlo Giuliani during the demonstration and several hundred demonstrators hospitalized after police attacks and torture in custody, was the Genoa Group of Eight Summit protest, from July 18 to July 22, 2001.
All in all, there were several hundred demonstrators injured and several hundred arrests during the days surrounding the G8 meeting; most of those arrested have been charged with some form of "criminal association" under Italy's anti-mafia and anti-terrorist laws.

Just as the 'fl bloc' tactic, or sit down protests or whatever can be brilliant tactics they all have their limitations and are not to be something simply rolled out on every occassion.
The tactic is great in some situations like mass mobilisations when there are loads of blocs, and during RTS style demos.
And people often think Pink Silver means pacifist - this makes the tactic *totally* pointless; we should strive to be tactical with our use/non-use of violence as tool to get what we want.
