When Europeans arrived, Tadoussac was already an important trading centre for native peoples of the north and south shores of the St Lawrence.
Tadoussac was captured by Sir David KIRKE in 1628 but was returned to France later.
Tadoussac is now well known as the central point of SAGUENAY-ST LAWRENCE MARINE PARK and as the southern terminus of PARC DU SAGUENAY.

Tadoussac, a small 400 year old village surrounded by hills at the junction of the mighty St Lawrence river and the Saguenay fjord, was our unlikely destination for a week-end getaway.
On our return to Tadoussac and after an excellent supper at their house, they insisted on driving us back to the Bed and Breakfast; well-fed and filled with the local lore.
We left Tadoussac feeling that our week-end was well spent and very worth the trip.

A collision with an ocean liner in thick fog on August 30, 1961 damaged the upper deck and led to a premature end to the season, but the Tadoussac was repaired and back on her usual run the next year.
Changing times and new regulations about increased fire protection services led to a decision to retire the Tadoussac and her two running mates, the Richelieu and the St. Lawrence, at he end of the 1965 season.
Although the Richelieu and the St. Lawrence were dismantled, the Tadoussac got a reprieve and was resold and taken to Copenhagen, Denmark as a floating hotel.

 CSL Tadoussac
The Tadoussac departed Collingwood, ON on her maiden voyage October 2, 1969 light for Fort William (now Thunder Bay), ON to load iron ore. In 1972, she was the first downbound vessel through the Welland Canal opening the Port of Hamilton, ON for the season on April 4, 1972.
The CSL Tadoussac was eased from her dry dock berth on June 13, 2001 with the assistance of Port Weller Dry Docks tug James E. McGrath and McKeil Marine tugs Lac Vancouver and Miseford.
On March 20, 2007, the CSL Tadoussac was the featured vessel at the official opening of the Welland Canal for the 2007 season marking the 75th anniversary of the opening of the 4th canal in 1932 by the Canada Steamship Lines steamer Lemoyne and the earliest opening date in the history of the canal.
