 Self Defense books
Ashida Kim's books are a great compliment to Bujinkan and focus mainly on the actual Ninjitsu (Ninjutsu)side of the art (for example Ninpo).
Ashida Kim has many books on actual fighting techniques and moves, however, he also has written many books on ninja invisibility, meditation, outdoor survival, climbing, maneuvers, silent stepping techniques, Ninjutsu weapons, cloak and dagger, shapeshifting and disguise (part of invisibility), and many modern applications to the techniques.
On their own, the Ashida Kim books are of course not sufficient to learn every aspect of the art, However, there are important ideas not found in many other informational resources.

Ashida Kim is not Asian, and his name comes from 2 different countires (Ashida=Japan, Kim=Korea).
Ashida Kim does not even say in his books how he got to be a ninja.
From merely the cover of the book one can see what a charlatan Ashida Kim is. I am a martial artist and I can tell you that this book is a piece of junk.

Aliveness: A threat to Tae Kwon Do? - No BS Martial Arts
Cynics have suggested that when Tae Kwon Do was created in the fifties, the powers that were sort something to make it different from Karate.
In many ways Tae Kwon Do’s culture has developed to place a great deal of emphasis on kicking, whether in the WTF guise or the ITF branding (et al).
This shapes Tae Kwon Do and can distort the practitioner’s viewpoint of the effectiveness of kicking as a strategy because they are not adequately exposed to the pitfalls of such a tactical approach.

ashida kim really isnt fake about everything he teaches.
I know this because I used to study Mikkyo (were most of the esoteric teachings are drawn from) Ashida's BS doesn't match what I been taught from actual followers nor does it match whats in the makimono I have.

Though Tae Bo's hype died out years ago, I decided to give this book a read and see what this 'revolutionary' training regimen could offer me.
As an experienced martial artist, a lot of the movements were familiar to me (though in the Tae Bo context, they are performed for fitness purposes and not fighting purposes).
Despite a lot of celebrity backing, I think the main reason why Tae Bo led to a couple of people losing a few pounds is that it gets people off the junk food and into some light exercise program.
