 Taenia Solium, The Pork Tapeworm
Taenia solium is the Human Tapeworm that comes from pork.
The pig becomes infected from ingesting the eggs and once inside the intestine, the eggs release the oncosphere (first-stage larvae), making them an intermediate host, the oncosphere then separates and invades the intestinal wall migrating to the striated muscles, where it develops into a cyst-like structure, a cysticercus.
When a human ingests the Taenia solium eggs they can also become infected with cysticerocosis, which can spread to all of the human organs, typically the Central Nervous System (CNS).

OBJECTIVE: (1) To determine the concentration of Taenia antigens in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with neurocysticercosis (NC); (2) to establish its relationship with clinical activity of the disease and with classical variables of CSF.
RESULTS: The Taenia antigen was detected in CSF from 17 patients (47.2%), especially in those patients with epileptic symptoms in the last 12 months.

Taenia solium, also called the pork tapeworm, is a cyclophyllid cestode in the family Taeniidae.
Though humans usually serve as an definitive host, eating infected meat, fostering adult tapeworms in the intestine, and passing eggs through feces, sometimes a cysticercus (a larva sometimes called a "bladder worm ") develops in the human and the human acts like an intermediate host.
Eggs can be diagnosed only to the family (biology) level, but if a proglottid's uterus is stained with India ink, the number of visible uterine branches can help identify the species: unlike the Taenia saginata uteri, T.

Once ingested, the larvae emerge in the digestive tract where they burrow through the intestinal wall into a blood vessel and are carried to muscle tissue, in the case of Taenia pisiformis, or some other organ tissue.
