		Tagajo can be reached by car on Basho's Narrow Road, otherwise known as Route 4, or by train on the Senseki line (it takes 20 minutes from Sendai to Tagajo and costs a mere ¥230).
		However, during the attempt to drive out the indigenous rebels of the region in 780, Tagajo was burnt to the ground and fell into ruin.
		Tagajo is also home of a beautiful lake, Sendai Port (used by AJET on the annual trip to the Sapporo Snow Festival) and, for those who live in Nakano-Sakae or Shiogama - Nagasakia (a large department store with a terrific ¥100 store on the 4th floor!).

		A number of people came to Tagajo from Nara and Kyoto to work in the provincial office, and they wrote waka, a 31-syllable poem, on scenic spots in the neighborhood during their leisure hours.

		TAGAJO, Miyagi - The remains of 600,000 year old human dwellings - believed to be the oldest of their kind ever found in the nation and one of the oldest in the world, have been found in Miyagi Prefecture, archaeologists said Monday.
		The ruins of the residences, if it is confirmed, predates the nation's oldest known residential remains found in February this year in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, by some 100,000 years, archaeologists announced.
		The remains in question were excavated in Kamitakamori, Miyagi Prefecture, by a joint team of Tohoku Fukushi University experts and a local archaeological institute in Tagajo.
