They originally lived on the Pacific seaboard between the Atna River and the Queen Charlotte Archipelago.
They are comprised of several distinct groups, the Sitkas, Stahkins, Chilcats and the inland Tagishes all speaking dialects of the same stock language which is noted for its extremely harsh phonetic system.
