Taig - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Taig (also "Teague") is a slang term used by some in Scotland and Northern Ireland to refer to Irish Roman Catholics.
The use of the term as an insult originates in the 17th century, in the sectarian conflicts arising out of the Plantations of Ireland.
Taig is also the last name of one of the biggest SG-1 supporters in Melbourne

A Comprehensive Dividing Capability for the Peatol/Taig Lathe   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The Taig micro lathe (distributed in the UK by Peatol Machine Tools) is a popular and versatile small machine, albeit with some limitations.
A major reason for the use of the Taig headstock as a basis for this project was to maintain compatibility with the Taig work holding attachments and to allow the division components to be attached to the headstock of a Taig lathe.
The Taig headstock consists of a pair of aluminium extrusions that hold a steel spindle carried in a pair of substantial 4cm OD ball races, with a steel spacer tube between the two races.

 TAIG LATHE
A friend later told me I should have ordered the Taig with the WW taper in the spindle, as the ww collets are more accurate and easier to use, although expensive for the beginner on a budget.
Probably the best improvement to the Taig, and the best lesson in machining was afforded by the making of Knobs to replace the various setscrews that lock or tighten parts of the lathe.
In the course of ordering parts from Taig, I often pose questions, here is a list of questions and their responses.

A Dividing Head for the Peatol/Taig Lathe   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
It comes as a partially assembled kit of parts, so the first exercise for the eager novice metal-turner is to assemble it, and in particular, to work out how to mount the various components on the base plate in a manner that will result in a usable machine...but I digress.
However, with the use of a suitable adapter plate and split collet to attach the head to the lathe headstock and drive spindle, it should be possible to use the head in either configuration.
With no facilities on the Taig for the use of 1MT tooling, the arbor was a redundant item, but it lead to the idea of using Jacobs chucks as the primary work-holding device for the dividing head.
