Ichikawa Shinnosuke as Shinmen Takezo aka Miyamoto Musashi is untouchable in this drama.
It was a very enjoyable drama and I recommend it to anyone who likes Taiga dramas.

S.E.N.S. will be making music for this drama too, they are famous for their works in LOVE 2000, I think.
i watched this drama until 20+ episodes and i lost interest in it cos i felt that the story was really draggy.

This present drama like the old one twenty years ago finishes like the book after the duel on Ganryu Jima.
But in the drama Ganryu is depicted as someone of similar age to Musashi.

The last taiga dealt with the Yamauchi family and the Tosa fief and how they dealt and survived with all the intrigues that occured in the last part of the 16th century.
However, this drama seems to deal more with the warring states period in its prime rather than with the era of unification.

For those of you that do not know what a "Taiga" drama is, it is a year long drama that aims to bolster patriotic feelings amongst the Japanese.
First of all it came out as a Taiga drama, second it employed SMAP members whose members are are considered for lack of a better word, "teen idols" and third it propelled an enormous amount of commercial paraphernalia and fan work like doujinshi.
It is in essence historical fiction where fans have decided, with the use of some historical information and their own ideals, they have created a creature that resembles but does not necessarily mimic the real people.
