Residents of Toia and Morris streets, in Marton, won’t be forced to vote for candidates in the Taihape ward in next year’s Rangitikei District council elections.
Rangitikei Mayor Bob Buchanan described the transportation of the two streets as “a genuine technical slip” which would certainly be corrected on subsequent copies of the map.
The most significant change is the creation of a new “central” ward which takes in all of the old Hunterville ward, part of the southern sector of the old Taihape ward and a chunk of the old Bulls ward, including Turakina, but not Ratana.

The demolition of Taihape’s previous BP site and the rebuild of the new Connect store has led to Taihape residents, and traveling motorists, purchasing their fuel from surrounding areas for the last 14 weeks.

BP New Zealand is advising motorists that from midnight on Monday 21 February, BP Taihape will be temporary closed for 14 weeks while the site is rebuilt.
As BP is the only service station in Taihape, travellers will be unable to refuel there over this period and will need to plan their fuel purchases.
BP Managing Director, Peter Griffiths, said the rebuild of the site represented a major investment in Taihape and was necessary to continue meeting the growth in demand from the region.

Eric Hall McCormick was born in Taihape on 17 June 1906, the second child and only son of William James Hall McCormick, a boot merchant, and his wife, Ellen Powrie, who had been a dressmaker before her marriage.
His Irish-born father had moved to Taihape from Christchurch in the vanguard of a planned co-operative settlement.
He was a solitary child, often bullied during his primary schooling at Taihape District High School.
