I've started to notice stories, both on the web and in my local paper, that the first taikonaut, Yang Liwei, has virtually disappeared from sight since SZ 5's landing and recovery.
An AP story by Joe McDonald speculates "His absence may be an attempt by the government to temper the individual side of the achievement it has been aggressively promoting." However, this runs counter to virtually everything else in the article, which notes that Yang has been touted everywhere as China's newest hero.
Something about this reminds me of SZ 2, where news of a supposedly successful recovery was followed by a total photo flout and official silence, broken only recently when one Chinese official admitted there were "problems" with the recovery.
