Conventional landing gear - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Conventional landing gear describes an aircraft landing gear configuration with an undercarriage arrangement consisting of two main wheels and a tail wheel.
In early aircraft, a tail skid made of metal or wood was used.
In modern aircraft, a small, articulated wheel assembly is attached to the most posterior part of the airframe.

 Brenor Flight Log
Basically, the tail would much prefer to be in front rather than behind you - meaning that given a chance it will try to swing around in a bit of tail dragger revenge know as a ground loop.
Apparently tail draggers were invented to punish pilots who think that they are done flying once the plane’s wheels are on the ground.
Tail draggers are a lot of fun, they are not all that hard to fly (or land for that matter), you just need to give them your full attention.

 The Ground Loop
Ground looping is usually associated with a tail-dragger type of aircraft (one with a tail wheel) because it has a natural tendency to ground loop.
Part of its takeoff run is made with its tail elevated, which leaves only the two main landing wheels in contact with the ground.
Many R/C'ers who are accustomed to flying a plane with a tricycle landing gear, get into the habit of giving their plane's engine an instantaneous burst of full power, then steering the plane down the runway until takeoff speed is reached.

When landing a tail dragger, if you touch the main gear with any force, the CG causes the TAIL to drop, putting the wing at a higher angle, causing a bounce.
This is why tail draggers are inherently bouncy on landing.
On a tail dragger, the CG is behind the main gear.

Some people will tell you that a tail wheel aircraft is the only type you can fly in and out of rough paddocks and strips - and this may have been true at one time, when nose wheel struts were the weak points of some older aircraft designs.
The 'look' of a tail wheel aircraft has a certain magic to it and, flown well, they are as safe as a tricycle aircraft.
When deciding on building an aircraft, you may find that it is available in both nose wheel and tail wheel form, but this is relatively unusual.

According to the liner notes, Tail Dragger got his name from Howlin’ Wolf, who would always comment on the man’s inability to get to a gig on time: "Here he come, draggin’ his tail," Wolf would say.
The Wolf is long gone, but Tail Dragger is still running late on his gigs.
Although this recent CD release boasts such modern blues players as fellow Chicagoan Billy Branch, who plays a great harmonica, Tail Dragger prefers to keep his music steeped in the tried-and-true, stripped-bare sounds that put Chicago on the map as one of the country’s premier electric blues locations.

Taildragger is the term pilots use to describe an airplane with "conventional gear" consisting of small wheel under the tail and the two main wheels up front.
Taildraggers are more demanding to handle during takeoffs and landings than their trigear counterparts; but it is also why pilots continue to fly them.
Taildraggers are more challenging to fly and tail dragger pilots consider themselves a cut above their tricycle brethren.
