Ladu Guna (李家霖), a Taoist master of the Amis tribe in Taitung's Tungho Village who cast a spell on the betel nuts, said that the group's petition is peaceful and sincere in nature and they hope that their message will get across.

In Hualien county power supplies were cut to 1,000 homes after the quake struck at 1:53 a.m.
State radio Broadcasting Corporation of China said that in Hualien and neighbouring Taitung county, near the epicentre, some 5,000 homes were without power for several hours and 40 computers in a securities firm in Hualien fell to the ground during the shake.
