		Taka Boom, younger sister of Chicago's own Chaka Khan, was no stranger to the recording studio or to disco music.
		Boom was a session vocalist in the early 1970's, singing with the Gap Band and Carl Carlton, as well as being a member of George Clinton's Brides of Funkenstein.
		Taka moved to London in the 1990's and has become much more of a success there than she ever achieved here in the U.S. She still performs in concerts and is a mainstay on the studio circuit.

		Taka Boom was born Yvonne Stevens in Chicago, Illinois on October 8, 1954; a year and a half after her sister Yvette, better known as Chaka Khan, had arrived into this world.
		Taka and Chaka (or Bonnie and Yvette, as they still call each other) grew up in a middle class household in the university area of Chicago.
		There, Taka met and married saxophonist John Brumbach and after taking on her husband's nick, "Boom", Taka's stage name was complete.

		Taka Boom, in turn, spawned two successful singles, the disco-driven "Red Hot" and the percussion- and horn-led "Night Dancin'," which dipped into the Top 20.
		Where Boom is at her best, though, is across those songs which are now forgotten, most notably the deeply funky "Dance Baby Dance," which features blistering horns and bass, and its cousin, "Dance Like You Do at Home," which is equally funk-heavy.
		Taka Boom is a marvelous debut from a highly talented musician, who unfortunately has always been relegated to the annals of fringe, too often cast aside as Chaka Khan's sister.
