Gomi did a little bit of shadowboxing and 10 minutes of grappling in front of the media.
Gomi's first round opponent, Tatsuya Kawajiri, who is the current Shooto Welterweight champion, then he would have to face the winner of Azeredo vs. Naoyuki Kotani, however, Gomi hasn't done much studying of either Kawajiri or Kotani.

With his record at a perfect 10-0 in Pride coming into the fight, Gomi was expected to walk out victorious once again and he may have overlooked the skills of the American Top Team member.
He landed a textbook takedown on Gomi early on and just smothered him on the ground, going for multiple submissions and eventually landing a head and arm choke that put Gomi to sleep.
Gomi is much more accomplished and the best fighter in the world in my opinion in his weight class...but Marcus won and finished him and that's a lot.

So I would guess Gomi is probably just figuring out for himself, whether it is better to continue to fight in Japan for cheaper and possibly have a longer term career and post-career opportunities, or fight in the UFC for slightly more money as “that little Jap guy with the big head who KO’s people”.
Gomi is smart not to come to the UFC if he has other options because the lightweight bracket is stacked, and any one of the top 5 would give him a tough fight and probably beat him.
Gomi doesnt even like the UFC for what to come over possibly loose and then his career is ruined and everyone to make a big deal about the loss and start saying, Oh is his career over.

Gomi is not a big headed after this win....i think he is humble as Fedor..
And Gomi never said that he was going to necessearly move up in weight class...he did say that he wanted to fight Silva and Hendo...but not that he was going to fight as a LHW...i can't even see Gomi with 93 kg on him...lol.
Whatever KYO...you can continue with your poor arguements...and btw, if Gomi takes on Hendo or Silva or he fights in the open weight gp i wanna see whit what will you come out again...because even if he said that he was gonna take a year with easy...it doesn't mean that he won't fight at all.

Gomi was beating the crap out of Diaz mostly but he got careless and got caught.
Lately (prior to the Gomi fight) he realized and admitted that he needed to focus on strength training, finishing his fights to keep it out of the judges hands and a better understanding of the UFC scoring for when it does go to decision.
Gomi is a better fighter now, while Penn doesn’t look to me to have the same conditioning he did 3 or 4 years ago.

Gomi is going to be Prides money machine in the little guy category, thats why they're throwing him a has-been loser like Pulver to eat up effortlessly.
Gomi is a HUGE star in Japan so I wouldnt anticipate Pride risking his rep any time soon with a tough opponent.
On the other hand, Gomi is a tough dude, and with his constant shooting I don't think Pulver will have the opportunity to KO him.
