The hand-forged Takefu kitchen knives represent Japanese craftmanship at its most traditional.
According to the Nikonshoki - one of the oldest historical chronicles of Japan, published in the year 720 AD - Koshinokuni has been a centre of political, economic and cultural life ever since the 6th century.
In the 54th year of the Showa Period (1979), the samurai swords made in Takefu became the first products in their field to be granted the right to use the Traditional Craftwork label issued by the Japanese government.

Takefu has several large electronics and apparel factories, but it is known for the large number of small businesses that flourish there; indeed, the local joke that everyone in town addresses each other as "shacho" ("company president") is almost true.
Takefu is also home to a small but vibrant Brazilian community, who mostly work in a computer chip factory, and a smaller Chinese community, largely linked to the garment industry.
Takefu will officially cease to exist on October 1, 2005, in a merger with Imadate-cho, after which the conglomeration will be known as Echizen City (link in Japanese).

Takefu Renaissance itself has resumed its earlier task of using the town's legacies as the basis for building community pride and basis for economic revitalization at the town's heart.
Takefu Renaissance's way of incorporating diverse voices was to invite the general public to its monthly meetings, to convene a town hall style meeting on the premises of the city's Culture Center (bunka senta), and to supply journalists with findings of their probe.
One of Takefu Renaissance's allies is a political science scholar and former civil servant in the national bureaucracy.

In the Yamato era, Takefu was the provincial capital of the Echizen region and its economic and cultural center.

Fukiko had the wonderfuk idea to stop halfway to see the stone coast of Toujinbou and the island of Ojima where Mr.Yokoo played the `fue` in the shadow of the surrounding trees.
The harmony of the music is so different from European classic that it took me a while to get a sense for it.
After a day dedicated to the gog of paper and his "followers" we enjoyed again a concert at Takefu festival.When the concert was finished we were invited by Ms.Michiko Todo and Mr.Itchu Miyako who explained the shamisen and fue to us.

He was a guest composer at the Takefu International Music Festival (June 2002).
In the area of composition, he has four times received a fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council, as well as grants from the NEA, Arts Midwest, Meet the Composer, the American Music Center, The American Composers Forum, The Asian Cultural Council and others.
