Taketa built the JU program from scratch after a 10-year stint as head coach at University of The Pacific - a small, private, liberal arts institution located in Stockton, Calif. Taketa had 10 successful seasons at Pacific, where she set the school record for career wins with 140.
Before taking the reins at Pacific, Taketa compiled an 80-64 record in five seasons at Edison Community College in Fort Myers, Fla. Her tenure at ECC was highlighted by a conference championship and a second-place finish in the state tournament in 1986.
