  Takijiro Onishi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Early in the Pacific Campaign of World War Two he was the head of the Naval Aviation Development Division in the Munitions Ministry and was responsible for some of the technical details of the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, under command of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto.
Onishi himself opposed the attack on the grounds that it would lead to a full-scale war with an implacable foe who had the resources to overpower Japan into an unconditional surrender.
Takijiro Onishi committed ritual suicide (Seppuku) in his quarters on August 16, 1945, following the unconditional surrender of Japan.

In February 1944 the staff officers believed that even though they were far from the Americans in the number of aircraft, skilled pilots, soldiers, battleships and natural resources such as oil, they were above the American for the amount of soldiers who were willing to risk their lives than to be defeated.
Admiral Onishi received permission from the Minister of the Navy to enter Clark air base and begin to command the first organized suicide attacks.
Onishi didn’t yet believe that the suicide attacks would be a good tactic, but he did believe it to be a successful battle tactic and thought of it as the best way for the soldiers to die.
