Panagiotis "Takis" Fyssas (born 12 June 1973 in Athens) is a Greek left-back, currently playing for Heart of Midlothian and the Greek national football team, for whom he has been capped nearly 50 times.
Fyssas started his career in the Panionios GS youth academy, achieving his senior debut in the 1990-91 season.
After being allowed to leave Benfica in the summer of 2005, Fyssas made the surprise decision to move to Scotland with Hearts, despite reported interest from England and Germany.

TAKIS FYSSAS today laid the foundations for a Champions League assault by Hearts next season, declaring Vladimir Romanov's January spending spree as essential to European success.

As a top European competitor with his previous clubs, Panathinaikos and Benfica, the Greek left-back is conscious of the need for extensive squads to properly prepare for a possible Champions League campaign.

Fyssas was dismissed following a challenge on Shaun Maloney on the edge of the Hearts penalty area, 14 minutes from time, with the home side leading 2-1.
However, Hearts are adamant that Fyssas made no contact with the Celtic striker and a club spokesman said: "Having carried out a detailed review of the incident involving the sending off of Takis Fyssas, Hearts will be appealing the decision.

With the arrival of Takis Fyssas at Tynecastle, George Burley is fast becoming the envy of his Premierleague counterparts.
At tea-time on Tuesday, Burley was almost drooling as Greek international left-back Takis Fyssas demonstrated a handsome charm to match his footballing abilities.
If the truth be known about Fyssas, he was out of favour at Benfica and had been told to look for another club, but his aggressive, surging play should be ideally suited to British football.
