As for takoyaki, I haven't had any in LA that come close to comparing to the ones I had in Japan.
They were great when they first opened, but I have noticed a slight decline in them lately, notably the amount of octopus meat in the balls.
UNLESS you go to a mitsuwa food fest, in which case it's probably gindako, a popular takoyaki chain from osaka.
