But at the beginning of 1982, Peugeot replaced the Talbot Sunbeam with the three-door Samba which was basically a reworked Peugeot 104 fitted with 1.1 L and 1.3 L petrol engines.
The Talbot Samba was very much the same as the Peugeot 104 and Citroën LN/LNA on which it was based, smooth ride, good handling, low asking price and cheap running costs.
In that year, Peugeot discarded the Talbot name for passenger cars although it was retained until 1991 for the Talbot Express van.

The Alpine was derived from the previous Sunbeam-Talbot 90, and has since become colloquially known as the "Talbot" Alpine.
The Alpine name would be resurrected in 1976 by Chrysler (now the owner of Rootes) on a totally unrelated vehicle that could not have been more different - the UK-market version of the Simca 1307, a French-built family hatchback.
The car was initially badged as the '''Chrysler Alpine''', and then finally as the '''Talbot Alpine''' following Chrysler Europe's takeover by Peugeot in 1978.

Roy Axe proudly sits on the bonnet of his creation: the Alpine may have sold in moderate numbers in the UK, but it was a success in France, and part of this must have been down to its contemporary, crisp styling.
In many ways, the Alpine was more of a domestic choice than the Ford Cortina or the Vauxhall Cavalier (many were imported from Europe at this time to compensate for strike-bound UK plants) and yet it continued to fail to capture the public's imagination.
Talbot Solara was launched in the UK in March 1980, and represented a logical extension of the Alpine range for the conservative Brits...

The '''Simca 1307''' was a mid-sized hatchback automobile car, sold by Chrysler in Europe and Talbot between 1975 and 1985.
A sedan version, called the '''Solara''', was released that year, and produced alongside the Alpine at the former Rootes factory in Ryton, Coventry.
The Alpine and Solara, along with the smaller Chrysler/Simca Horizon Horizon, were dropped in 1985, following Peugeot's decision to discontinue the Talbot marque.

Sunbeam Sportscar Owners Club of Canada - Alpine History
In the event, the "Talbot" Alpine remained in production for a mere two years, yet while it had several severe drawbacks -- it was, after all, only a modified saloon -- people bought it.
When the Alpine was introduced in 1959, its wedge shape was generally thought to be very pleasing, but as styles changed so the pronounced fins became dated.
The Alpine V provides all these and although it's approaching its seventh birthday, continual improvements in equipment and power output have maintained its competitive position." The price of the Alpine remained competitive too, with the Tourer at L893 and the GT at L954.

The Horizon sold better than the Alpine, probably because hatchbacks were more "acceptable" in the smaller size segment, with cars such as the Renault 14 and VW Golf competing.
Not long after the Alpine and Horizon met their maker, and once the last Samba had been sold in 1986 the Talbot name, the cars, and the last legacy of Chrysler Europe was no more.
But the Talbot name lived on as late as 1991 on a rebadged Peugeot/Citroen/Fiat-design van, and the Peugeot 309 of 1985-93 was in fact the intended Horizon replacement.

The Talbot 1510 (known as the new Alpine in the UK) was the first new model to be unveiled by the revived Talbot marque, and appeared at the Paris Motor Show in October 1979.
The most noticeable changed compared with the previous Alpine/Simca 1307 was the restyled front end.
Early cars featured the name "Talbot" on the radiator grille rather than on the bonnet lid, but this arrangement was short lived.

The 1.6 got its engine from the Talbot Alpine/Solara range - a very robust, humble pushrod engine, and the 2.2 engine was the one used in the Talbot Tagora (the one that looked like an enlarged Solara)
The chassis was now completely warm galvanised from the factory (actually the Murena was the first mass-produced car to undergo this treatment), and the body was then riveted/bonded in place, - producing a very long lasting car indeed.
The suspension consists of longitudinal torsionbars in front (as on the Simca-1100 and Talbot Alpine) - but at the back the transverse torsion bars have been replaced with McPherson struts.
