Talcahuano is a port city of Chile, lying near Concepción.
Talcahuano is located in the extreme south of the central zone of Chile.
Talcahuano contains Chile's main naval base which is home of the historical relic, the Huascár, a Peruvian ironclad ship which was captured in 1879 during the War of the Pacific.

The poor performance is attributed to moves made by the GT Chile Growth Fund early in the year, as well as to poor 1995 corporate results, sliding prices for Chile's principal export commodities, and pressure exerted on the exchange by high local interest rates.

Chile is proposing to install an array of buoys that combined with the new upgraded tidal network to monitor the evolution of ENSO to provide inputs for the Regional Models presently being develop to mitigate the impacts on the phenomenon in the coastal area.

May 6, 1997 Chilean government agency Comision Regional del Medioambiente (Corema) approved the environmental impact study submitted by Petroquim for a polypropylene resins plant in Talcahuano, Chile.
Construction of the plant started in March of 1997 and will have a capacity of 100.000 tpy and will start operations in the first quarter of 1999.
It is estimated by Petroquim that demand for the resin in Chile will reach 60,000 tpy and it will export the remaining 40,000 tons to Brazil generating $ 32 mm revenue.

October 20, 2004--Technip, in consortium with Ingenieria y Construccion Sigdo Koppers, has been awarded a contract worth approximately 21 million euros (75% Technip) by Enap Refinerias SA (subsidiary of the Chilean state oil company Enap) for a new hydrotreating unit to be located at its Bio Refinery at Talcahuano, Chile.
The 12,000 BPSD (barrels per stream day) hydrotreating unit, based on Axens technology, will produce low-sulfur diesel, in compliance with the new Chilean regulations, limiting sulfur emissions to 50 parts per million (ppm) in the metropolitan area of Santiago, the country's capital.
The Group has high-quality industrial and construction facilities in France, Brazil, the UK, the USA, Finland and Angola as well as a world-class fleet of offshore construction vessels.
