Gaining its first run between 1990 and 1991, TaleSpin takes some of the most well known characters from The Jungle Book and places them in a 1930's pacific setting.
Baloo pilots a yellow amphibious cargo plane, but his laid back attitude to life causes his company, "Baloo's Air Service", to be taken over by Rebecca Cunningham following several missed loan repayments.
To be honest, I didn't think we'd ever see the day, but I'm glad Disney have finally started to release some of their old classics.

  TaleSpin
TaleSpin is set in the fictional city of Cape Suzette, a harbor town protected by giant cliffs (through which only a small opening exists).
The timeframe of the series is never specifically addressed, but appears to be in the mid to late 1930s; the helicopter and jet engine are experimental devices and most architecture is reminiscent of the art deco style of that period.
As of 2005, TaleSpin is currently among the few classic Disney television cartoons to still be shown in reruns on Toon Disney.

TaleSpin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TaleSpin is set in the fictional city-state of Cape Suzette (itself, a pun on the pancake dish, Crêpe Suzette), a harbor town protected by giant cliffs (through which only a small opening exists).
The opening in the cliffs is guarded by anti-aircraft artillery, preventing flying rabblerousers or air pirates from entering the city.
Two episodes of Talespin drew varied amounts of controversy, enough for one episode to be temporarily banned and the other to be permanently banned.

 The TaleSpin Sourcepage
TaleSpin, a spin-off loosely based on Walt Disney's 1967 adaptation of The Jungle Book, stars Baloo Bear as an ace pilot from the harbor city of Cape Suzette, in a fantasy world whose citizens are clothed, talking animal-people.
TaleSpin officially debuted on syndicated television on September 9, 1990, with the premiere of its introductory TV-movie "Plunder and Lightning." Fans since justifiably view the series as the pinnacle of the Disney Afternoon's program lineup, as well as one of the best shows (animated or otherwise) of its decade.
The TaleSpin Sourcepage strives to be what Disney never published: a reference that organizes information, details, facts, and trivia into a cohesive whole, providing an in-depth and comprehensive look inside the TaleSpin saga.

Darkwing Duck & Talespin: Volume One - A Review by Michael Nusair
The humor tends to lean towards the juvenile side (this is a kids’ show, after all) though each episode is generally peppered with a few references bound to sail over the heads of its younger viewers.
Talespin is probably the superior of the two shows, though I suppose this ultimately boils down to personal taste, as both shows share a pretty similar tone.
Talespin’s appeal seems to be slightly more universal, and will probably hold a slightly greater appeal to adults than Darkwing Duck, though both shows are certainly better than your average Saturday morning fare.

"DARKWING DUCK: VOLUME 1 & TALESPIN: VOLUME 1" DVD Review by Kevin Carr - 7M Pictures
The two that are getting their inaugural DVD run include “Darkwing Duck” and “TaleSpin.” The shows of this era get special note because in addition to having a child fan base, they also were watched to a large degree by college students.
But while “Darkwing Duck” had a stronger college fan base, but “TaleSpin” seems to be a stronger show in the long run.
It’s a two-parter for “Darkwing Duck” and a four-parter for “TaleSpin.” In both cases, the characters are set up (although the “Darkwing” mythology changes things around periodically), and they also include more than twenty regular-season episodes.

 Disney’s TaleSpin Volume 1 & Darkwing Duck Volume 1 - Shakefire.com Review
TaleSpin: It’s great to catch up on a cartoon that I haven’t seen since I was a kid, including the rarely seen 4-episode pilot but the DVD set itself is nothing great, and is barely a step up form buying bootlegs on eBay.
So, aside from nostalgia and having an actual DVD set on your shelf, this is hardly worth it to the passing fan.
Final Word: Surprisingly enough, Darkwing Duck holds up better over time than TaleSpin and, if it weren’t for the lack of special features and the poor transfer quality, these DVD sets would be up in the B-range instead of C. -Justin has been a writer for Shakefire.com since 2004.

TaleSpin: Volume 1 DVD Review - Page 1 of 2
"TaleSpin" premiered in September of 1990 as part of a new syndicated lineup called "The Disney Afternoon." Sixty-five episodes were produced to fill half-hour timeslots.
As was often the case for animated TV fare, all 65 installments would air within a year, but the show maintained a 5-times-a-week presence on the schedule for four full seasons.
While this method has not eschewed complaint altogether (the audio/video has been shaky, the absence of supplements stinks, and all shows' futures seem jeopardized by non-existent promotion), it has still satisfied a significant portion of the public which is eager to revisit the shows they remember fondly in the best way possible.

 TaleSpin - Don Markstein's Toonopedia
TaleSpin starred Baloo the Bear, who had been Mowgli's rather irresponsible mentor back when he lived in the jungle, but who is depicted here as the slightly less irresponsible pilot of The Sea Duck, a decrepit old seaplane belonging to a small outfit called Higher for Hire.
Baloo's voice was provided by Ed Gilbert, whose voice is also heard in Jem, The Tick, Pirates of Darkwater and elsewhere.
TaleSpin was rotated out of The Disney Afternoon after a couple of years, but is still seen in reruns from time to time on The Disney Channel or Toon Disney.

The NTSC Talespin laserdiscs, in quality, are a typical later CLV studio release: which is to say, they are generally excellent.
It isn't evident whether the original source was digital or film (at the time this was released, it could well have been either) - although the somewhat "soft" vertical edges suggest that it may be a transfer from film.
An advantage that all of the home videos share (not just the laserdisc versions) is that they are uncut - episodes of Talespin shown in syndication were often edited for time, and further, Disney itself has made cuts to some episodes due to objections about violence.
