Trains magazine’s Bob Johnston reports Talgo America is proposing to build 20 fast trains for the U.S. Passenger train builders are confronting a U.S. market in a state of suspended animation, according to the magazine.
In early January, Talgo America sent identical letters to Amtrak and at least seven states with an offer to build and lease a minimum of 20 Talgo XXI trainsets.
Talgo America CEO Jean-Pierre Ruiz would not comment on the letters, Johnston wrote, “interviews with state DOT officials confirmed” that the 12-car trainsets would include a bistro car and two diesel locomotives built by Siemens of France.

Talgo 200 has 2-types of end-car: 1-axle (other end rested on neighboring coach with axle) and 2-axle (neighboring coach with its axle on far end rests on it).
Talgo says their newer design has only one type of end-car (1-axle), but they need 2 types of intermediate car (a 1-axle, and 2-axle to make the axle count come out right).

Using Talgo train equipment on a train handling express cars would involve the higher cost of a Talgo trainset without the associated running time advantage.
The travel time for the Talgo train (because of the higher speeds around curves) is 2 hours 16 minutes, 20 minutes faster than the conventional passenger train running time.
As discussed earlier in this report, the use of Talgo trains for express service would not be cost-effective and may be prohibited by FRA regulations.

Since Spain's rail tracks are of a wider gauge than those used for French trains (except for the TALGO and Trans-Europe-Express trains), you'll probably have to change trains at the border unless you're on an express train.
The most comfortable and the fastest trains in Spain are the TER, TALGO, and Electrotren.
In Paris it's worth the extra bucks to purchase a TALGO express or a "Puerta del Sol" express -- that way, you can avoid having to change trains once again at the Spanish border.

AVE and Talgo trains, by their nature, do not stop very often: if somebody were to try to take your case, they could not take it off the train between stations.
They could leave the train with your luggage, as a matter of fact I have heard of some cases, specially when the AVE stops in Puertollano and Cordoba.
We took the TALGO from Madrid to Barcelona in May. We left our luggage unattended on the rack above our seats, as well as a book bag with a couple of digital cameras on our seats, when we went to the bar car and nobody bothered to take anything.
