Small Talk (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Small Talk was the seventh album by Sly and the Family Stone, released by Epic/CBS Records in 1974.
This album was the final LP to feature the original Family Stone, which broke up in January 1975.
Small Talk's singles were "If It were Left Up to Me", "Time For Livin'" (the band's final Top 40 hit), and "Loose Booty", an up-tempo funk track which uses the names of Bible characters Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego as a chant.

 BBC - h2g2 - Mark Hollis and Talk Talk - the Band - A851384
Talk Talk were a band who between 1982 and 1991 released a series of five increasingly esoteric and unclassifiable albums.
His brother Ed Hollis (who co-wrote the track 'Talk Talk') found Lee and Paul, and along with keyboard player Simon Brenner, the band's demo material and a couple of gigs secured them a session on Radio One, and a subsequent deal with EMI.
The first Talk Talk album was released in 1982 and suffered from EMI's desire to push the band in the new romantic direction - demonstrated by the assignment of Duran Duran producer Colin Thurston to the album.

Talk is Cheap (album) - KnowledgeIsFun.com
Nevertheless, it is regarded by many as a classic rock and roll record that proved Richards was the core creator for the band he formed in 1962 with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones.
Little Steven of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band encouraged Richards to record his own record, partially to prove that the Rolling Stones were still a vital force in rock and roll.
Talk is Cheap reignited the Rolling Stones, the biggest tour to date would follow in less than a year of Richards' solo effort.

 Spirit Of Talk Talk
Talk Talk's career began in 1981, with a line-up of the main songwriter and vocalist Mark Hollis, as well as Lee Harris, Paul Webb and Simon Bremner.
Released to thunderous critical acclaim, it is a brilliantly composed album, and it is very difficult to describe how truly amazing it is. Not one note is out of place, the songs change gear or drop away into silence and it sounds perfect.
Their debut album, "Herds Of Instinct", was released in 1994 and followed on from "Laughing Stock" perfectly, Indeed, from the opening notes of the "Orang" track, it is apparent just how important an influence Lee and Paul had been in Talk Talk changing their musical sound towards the end of the 1980's.

DC Talk's harmonies are smooth, yet their voices retain a degree of individuality, and are supported by first rate musicians and production.
The major flaw of the album is that most of the tracks are drawn out past their optimum length, and lose their impact.
If DC Talk had pruned about ten minutes of superfluity from the album they'd have a genuine classic on their hands.

People familiar with early Talk Talk might be surprised by their later work.
During sessions for the next album, the band was reconfigured without Brenner.
Untouched by contemporary trends – you will find no indie-dance, grunge or shoe-gazing here – Talk Talk were quite simply doing their own thing, following dark paths that will surprise anyone who remembers them merely for their brush with chart fame and the long-coated appearances on Saturday Superstore’s Video Vote.

It was album made by an artist without budgetary or temporal constraints and greatly benefits from those normally artistically stifiling concerns.
The mood and tone for the album is set from the opening piece 'The Rainbow' which starts minimally with 2 minutes of building ambience before being punctured by a distorted harmonica and an earthy old skool blues beat.
The album's highpoint is 'I Believe in You' the poignant, moving anti-heroin song (although you wouldn't know it without deciphering the handwritten lyric sheet)performed hauntingly with the Choir of Chelmsford Cathedral.

Talk Talk were dropped by EMI after a row over their previous album, the equally brilliant SPIRIT OF EDEN.
Talk Talk had already entered into studio lore for spending a long and expensive day recording a large brass section, keeping only the sound of a trumpeter clearing spit from his mouthpiece.
For an album that was generally ignored by the record-buying public, it's probably not too hard to see why this was passed over.

 Talk Talk Album Reviews
The album’s shortest song is “Chameleon Day,” an almost a cappella oddity which sprinkles just enough instrumentation (piano, variophon) and seemingly ill fitting shifts in volume to provide fodder for the pretentious police (“pretentious” being a frequent criticism of the band).
In truth, the track is the albums least enjoyable, but it does demonstrate how determined the band was to push the boundaries of the pop format.
In fact, this album’s defiantly uncommercial experimentation and creative mingling of barely audible sounds with surprisingly atonal interjections sounds as fresh and innovative today as it did thirteen years ago.

"Listening to this album in the context of all the other KC albums confirms one thing for me: KC is not so much a band in the conventional sense as it is a continuum for Fripp to collaborate with other very talented musicians.
Elephant Talk is one of the most original songs I've ever heard, a great insight into the meaninglessness of daily conversation supported by a funky and intense rhythm.

It's not a prog-rock album, really, but at a time when the giants of prog were indulging in pop songs for commercial success, TALK TALK was passing them in the opposite direction- fueling their increasingly progressive musical works with the money and momentum that their pop past provided.

One of the album's highlights was the seven-minute epic `From Little Things Big Things Grow' (co-written with Kev Carmody), a documentary narrative of one of the first Aboriginal land rights claims.
Smoke was certainly a transitional album, with Kelly teaming up with Melbourne-based bluegrass combo Uncle Bill (UK-born Gerry Hale on guitar, dobro, mandolin, fiddle and vocals, Adam Gare on fiddle, mandolin and vocals, Peter Somerville on banjo and vocals and Stuart Speed on double bass).

Mr. D's Keith Richards Personal Data & Biography
The project was doubtlessly inspired by manager Andrew Loog Oldham, as it mirrored his own similar ventures, but the album was nonetheless the first to bear Richards' name without the Stones.
Richard's drug dependency, which would bedevil the guitarist throughout the 70s, blighted his private life, but musically there continued to be several highlights including Exile On Main Street, a much-lauded album recorded at his French villa, and Some Girls, the group's controversial post-punk set.
Talk Is Cheap offered the sparkle and commitment missing from several latter-day Stones' releases, and in 'Don't Take It So Hard' Keith offered an invective to his estranged partner.
