 A cure for autism?
I know that when people talk about curing autism they mean well, but they really don't know what they are talking about.
I do not wish to be 'cured' from my autism, and many autistic persons who are able to communicate their feelings, say the same thing.
Autism is not something that I have, it is something that I am.

 Developmental Psychology
It's a subject she likens to infant physics": Babies appear surprised, for instance, when a ball begins to roll for no visible reason, but unimpressed when people cause others to move simply by pointing or talking.
Her insights may have applications to developmental disorders like autism, which is marked by poor language skills and a difficulty in grasping human intentions, perceptions, and goals.
IT'S challenge enough for adults, but imagine how babies fare, when the very idea of "meaning" that words are symbols for objects or ideas in the world is a major discovery.

TEACCH - Recommendations For Students with High Functioning Autism
Sometimes if is difficult for people with high functioning autism to carry on reciprocal conversations because they are so driven to talk about their own interests.
If a child with high functioning autism feels a "rage" coming on, it would be helpful if a teacher or parent would give him a written note to go to a predetermined quiet area of the school to write about why he or she is angry.
Usually when persons with high functioning autism become upset or engage in inappropriate behaviors, they are unlikely to have the skills to appreciate why what they are doing is wrong because they can not form those cause and effect social connections.

 Don't Cure Autism Now!
The talk of autism as if it were a disease is in itself problematic; diseases are bad, after all, and as long as it is seen as such, the need for a cure will always be on people's minds.
"Curing" or eradicating autism to eliminate the problems of 16-20% of the autistic spectrum population, at the risk of losing a large percentage of society's thinkers, would be horribly counterproductive.
They might assume that everyone shares their idea that autism is a horrible thing, and that it is obvious to all that autism must be eliminated.

Considerations for Social Interaction with Autistic Students
For instance, teaching a student with autism to talk to his or her socially competent peers during activities when students ordinarily do not talk may be counterproductive to the goal of encouraging social interactions.
Social interaction programs are designed to enhance relationships between children and youth with autism and their socially competent classmates.
This reality is not intended to take away from the significance of interactions between students with and without disabilities, the importance of general education students' being accepting and responsive to their peers with autism, or the necessity for children and youth with autism to make appropriate initiations and responses with others.

Although the number of cases of autism appears to have risen significantly in the last 20 years, this is probably due to better diagnosis of the condition, and a change in the way that doctors classify disorders so that autism is used more frequently than terms such as developmental delay.

Djebar posits that, for a certain kind of Arab woman, the only way out of shame and intimidation appears to be to talk, breaking the shrouded silence that so often is her lot—to talk without ceasing, to talk to one another in the traditional women’s quarters, and in city housing projects as well (50).
Djebar, herself a participant in the struggle for Algerian independence and respectful of Fanon’s anticolonial stance, nonetheless argues that the return to the veil as a patriotic “necessity,’ both during and after the war, is a prison for women: “'Women have merely exchanged one autism for another'” (qtd.
While Djebar admits to a deep gratitude for her father’s gesture of freedom and encouragement, she also admits to feeling alienated from the rich exchange that goes on among traditional women in gatherings of matrons referred to as “the harem,’ and to maintaining a love-hate relationship with the French language.

A Way of Life: Murder of Autistics
Others were killed as a result of gross negligence, neglect, failure to follow proper medical protocols, medical experimentation without proper oversight, or attempts to "cure" autism using untested and dangerous methods (for the record, autism has no cure).
The first persons killed in the holocaust were "mentally ill" persons (note that there was not a separate diagnosis of autism at the time, so exact numbers are unavailable) who, according to Hitler and his doctors, were unfit for life.
Many of those killed even cried out that they couldn't breathe, but their complaints were dismissed (with words like, "If you can talk, you can breathe," which isn't true when using restraints).
