The Stornoway Fishermen's Co-op boat building workshop attracted 50 people to listen to Ian Oughtread, a boat designer from Skye, Mark and Paul from Ullapool Boatbuilders, John Macaulay from Flodabay, John Hayes from Uig and Ian Stephen stepping in for Iain L Macleod to talk about the restoration of the Broadbay.
Special awards were presented to Stornoway Port Authority for its unstinting assistance to Sail Hebrides and to the Clyde Sail Training Trust for its continuing partnership with Sail Hebrides in providing sail training opportunities for participating young Hebrideans.
Most were from the west coast of Scotland and 16 were from the Outer Hebrides.

Way back in the 1980's I did a short spell with a ferrocement boat building yard in Inverness, Scotland - 'Concrete Afloat', and we produced 'cement' hulls from 15 to 50 feet.
For obvious reasons, ferrocement is a useless construction material for small boat construction, in particular sailingboats.

A talk on cremation and the history of cremation at Forest Hills was given by Rachel Sideman, a former intern at the cemetery who wrote on the subject for her Simmons College master's thesis.
In the cemetery's Walk Hill/Canterbury section may be found the glass-enclosed white marble statue titled "Boy in the Boat" and marked LL on the cemetery's map of curiosities.
Sideman explained that Forest Hills Cemetery led the region in cremation, building the first facility in New England, in 1893.
