Following reports about the imagined aspects of Vivian Gornick's Fierce Attachments, Fresh Air book critic Maureen Corrigan lumped Gornick in with the author of Fragments, a purported memoir of a child Holocaust survivor that was found to be wholly invented.
Gornick, who has written about using "a narrator who was me and at the same time not me," told a Goucher College writing class that she imagined conversations with her mother and invented an episode involving a homeless person.
