Hippy Haven: What is a Hippie?
Since I began with the hippie haven, I have wondered, while collecting links and replying to e mail..
Are hippies part of an era, or is being a hippie a kind of clothing, a kind of music, or a state of mind?
Though I'd hardly be described as a "hippie", I have a lot of respect for people who are even now attempting to live the hippie ideal.

Hippie Society: The Youth Rebellion - Life and Society - CBC Archives
A hippie in Kitsilano talks about getting by, meditating, doing drugs, and dropping out.
Some aged hippies, slightly older and wiser, talk about the failure of their commune.

MonkeyFilter Curious George: Where did the hippies go?
Though we like to talk of 1960s and the hippie movement, what exactly happened to them as the 1970s rolled on?
It is hippies, and children of hippies, and grandchidren of hippies, some folks just looking for a party, and a whole bunch of individuals.
Of course, there's also the fact that hippies were always a small subculture of teenagers and young people - some of whom had hippy children (that I went to school with - never had to worry about fashion because it was so nice and laid back - goodwill was the coolest place to shop).

The "hippie" generation, nothing but hippie long-haired maggot infested freaks as Dr. Simon Troop claims.
The talk in school was Grim Falls would be among the first targets hit because of its oil production facilities.
There is no evidence that any of the real hippies ever caused anyone harm in any way.

It also lead to an artistic and cultural revolution - civil rights, womens rights, the sexual revolution - these are a direct result of the liberal hippie culture of the 60's - as well as computers (basically).
While the people you listed may not have been hippies, they were supported by hippies.
They shared some of the same ideals hippies did.

To All Who Would Know [3] by Mel Lyman
The mighty indignant little hippie has risen up to slay the dragon and there is no dragon outside of himself.
The little narcotics officers, the little politicians, the little businessmen are at your mercy oh mighty and powerful Hippy Generation and they CAN'T fight back, they're bewildered because you don't tell them the truth, they don't know WHAT you want because YOU haven't learned how to TALK yet.

I liked it even more than the "Die Hippie Die." The stuff with Stan's dad was just absolutley hilarious.
I think Kenny's back too, I'm pretty sure that was him with the guys (without the orange jacket).
I would go as far to say South Park is the worst show on tv right now yet I still watch for maybe just one more classic episode like Scott Tenorman Must Die or the Taco Flavored Kisses J-Lo episode.

 Deadwinter interview w/ Mike Patton
But once again, after the show, Mike was completely kind and willing to talk to me, amidst the sea of autograph hungry, drooling fans in his wake.
Despite things I had heard, Mike was completely friendly, warm even, and totally went out of his way to make sure we had time to talk.
After the show, I talked briefly to Mike as he took down the insane setup he had rigged for his vocal effects and keyboards.

David Bowie: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - PopMatters Music Review
Praising Ziggy is an exercise that's been done to death, yet in all the talk about androgyny, identity, glam rock, and rock 'n' roll excess, my favorite aspect of the album is omitted every time.
Ziggy also marked the first time that Bowie, who was formerly perceived as a hippie-ish singer/songwriter, seemed weird.
I was already immersed in a Ziggy reverie when Chicago critics Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis devoted a segment of the August 6 episode of their rock talk show, Sound Opinions, to debating David Bowie's talents.

Other photos soon to be available show Ed donning a black face mask and forming an ad hoc co-operative with Black Bloc leaders who threw a newspaper stand through a Starbucks window, leading a hippie drum circle, and being arrested by the pigs for his support of the Cuban Five.
See, I was reading the letter "Talk show host defends attacks against program" that Ed sent to a West Virginia newspaper that published an anti-Ed screed.
He said the Defense Department had recently agreed to add liberal talk show hosts Franken and Ed Schultz to their programming because the two had reached that threshold.

 The Slang of Sex
Slang has both good and bad results - it's a way for people to talk about sex rather than keeping it a dirty secret, thus undermining the unhealthy obsession our society has about sex as taboo.
American teenagers and to some extent young adults make up one of the most prominent subcultures, and teen slang is part of what defines a decade, whether it's valley-speak of the 80's or hippie slang.
Slang allows the user to joke about the sex, which makes it easier to talk about.

Also known for the date, April 20th, which is the day to smoke pot all day, "the hippie holiday." Most pot smokers use 420 for just that, but, this date also happens to be Hitler's birthday which most possibly connected to or resulted in the selection of the April 20th date of the Columbine tragedy.
Because 99% of today's culture DOESN'T know what 420 means, it has become a code people use to identify and talk with each other without outsiders knowing.

Neil Young has never been the best lyricist in the world, and the lyrics to the songs on this album are just who he is. I guess it's kind of lame nowadays to be ecologically aware and talk about "mother earth".
Neil Young has long been one of rock's great romantics, mourning the utopian ideals of the "hippie" '60s and his vision of what America was…or at least should have been.
Neil's 'Greendale' project takes this idea one step further and creates an entire album that is based on the concept of a fictional northern California small town.
