When this movie came out, all people could talk about was the scene where the bean-eating cowboys fart around the campfire, but that scene is tame by today's standards.
Curious how it comes out, the stars watch the end of the movie on the screen of Graumann's Chinese.) It's not only one of the funniest things ever committed to film, but is also one of the most scathing portrayals of racism and official corruption.
Saddles is pretty far down the list of the top comedies at IMDb, probably underrated, but the competition is stiff, so perhaps it is fairly placed.

The Jias buy their way out of legal trouble(Xue Pan killed someone and the family bribed the magistrate..), people try ways and means to get connections with the family, and the local magistrate has this 'golden list' of the rich families not to 'offend'.
So although the romance between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu forms a....main running thread through the novel..(hard to explain in english lah, it'll be less clumsy if I could do it in chinese), its only a TINY part of the whole thing, and Lin Daiyu dies in the middle-later part.
He loves Lin Daiyu(was VERY down when she wasn't in the Jia residence) but on the other hand, he had sex with his maid at the age of 14[apparently out of sheer curiosity, anyway no one found out and the maid was married off to an opera singer later in the story].

 DVD Talk Forum - R1 "House of Flying Daggers" w/ no English dub?
Considering that most A-list foreign language movies are released on DVD without any dubbed track, it would hardly be worth mentioning unless someone saw it as a matter of concern and/or disappointment.
Because you know, sometimes you might be be doing something else and not watching the screen 100% of the time to read the subs, so it's nice to have a track in your native language so that you can understand what's being said without having to watch the screen.
People have missed way to many great films because they would not read....instead you end up with remakes...Breathless anyone.

The truth about the origins is much more interesting than many of the "versions" people have heard.
They call this Chi Lin Chuan Fe, is this different than the Chi Lin that you are speaking of.
I don't know any of those forms except I have heard of the 5 Animals and I have seen the Tiger Crane performed by a young boy, a friend of Mike's children, when I stayed with him in the Catskills once.
