FGC: Speaking Truth with Power by Bruce Birchard
When I joined the local meeting in the spring of 1967, I explained to my clearness committee that I sought membership, first, because religious questions were important to me and I wanted company on my journey, and, second, because it appeared to me that Friends really walked their talk.
In addition to his administrative duties in this position, he has spoken and written frequently about his personal spiritual journey, about what makes for a vital Friends' meeting, and about organizational leadership within the Religious Society of Friends.
Bruce started working for the Peace Committee of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 1974 when he began a ten-year stint working for disarmament and peace conversion.

Culture and spirituality, in other words, are of a piece.

Unlike "dry" tech advances, such as in information technology or communications, advances in "wet tech" strike at some of society's deepest religious and spiritual convictions about what it means to be human.
When talking to enhancement advocates like the so-called "transhumanist" crowd, it is surprising how often talk of the X-Men comes up.
And this, my friends, is where the X-Men come in.

More About The Religious Society of Friends, The Quaker Church in the UK 02
Other people usually join the Quaker Meeting when they have been attenders for some time, and feel that they agree with our form of religious life.
Two 'visitors' are chosen to talk to them, usually in their own homes, to decide whether they are really ready to become members, or may need a little more time as attenders.
