It was a warm spring day in Washington, D.C., when College of Medicine dean Layton McCurdy and job candidate Janice Lage sat down to talk at Georgetown University Hospital.
In 1991, Lage joined the pathology department at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington D.C., where she interpreted pathology specimens, handled management responsibilities and assisted in the department’s medical school and residency teaching programs.
Several months later, Lage can be found working alongside her colleagues as chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Stanley Prusiner received an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968, and, after completing his residency and internship at the medical center at the University of California, San Francisco, joined the faculty in 1974 as an assistant professor of neurology.
Prusiner has received numerous awards and honors, including the 1993 Gairdner Foundation International Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Medical Science, the 1994 Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research, and the 1996 Wolf Prize in Medicine.
In his talk, Dr. Prusiner will discuss both his previous investigations and plans for future experiments.
