Smart Card Reader and the Myth of Free Satellite Television
A "Smart Card Reader" is an interface which permits a device (such as a satellite television unit) to talk to the smart card.
The smart card is typically used instead of a memory card in a device where the memory needs to be protected.
It is only where the smart card technology is used improperly, such as the use of a smart card which has been reprogrammed to allow the user to watch unlimited television programming without payment, that the use is illegal.

Ann called her neighbor Stephanie when Steph was in Chicago, to warn her that a strange man had been seen in the parking lot, so that when she came in from the airport, she should be aware.
Ann took her to lunch and helped her laugh at the whole mess, making sure she didn’t take all of it too seriously, and helped her to gain some perspective.

dfes: youth matters - the green paper for youth. issues for youth work, youth services and connexions
The capital cost of the scheme (producing the smart cards, installing readers and linking them to local databases) is going to be high - and the cost of administering it is also going to be significant (as the various costings for the national identity card scheme show - see LSE 2005).
These costs will need to be recouped and it is possible that the youth card and the proposed national identity card will be one and the same in the long run (especially as those employed to develop the systems and software for the youth card talk about it as the youth identity card!).
Lastly, there was a basic problem: the vast bulk of youth work is provided by voluntary organizations who are rightly anxious to safeguard their work and autonomy (many being members of religious and social movements) and who take little or no state money.

The WLAN industry is buzzing with talk about Intel's Centrino technologies, which are flagging the company's intent to become a leader in mobile and wireless technologies, which will be key technologies for the Internet, multimedia, and high-speed networking.
WLAN chipset manufacturers such as Intersil or Agere and WLAN card producers including Netgear, 3COM, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Acrowave and MMCTechnology are directly affected by Intel's Centrino strategy.
Although Intel is competing with major processor companies like Advanced Micro Computers (AMD) and Transmeta in the notebook space, it is powerful enough to impact the fortunes of WLAN card makers: Intel has offered large subsidies to notebook manufacturers and is using these subsidies as a means of advancing into the wireless area.

In this talk we describe an improved broadcast encryption scheme called LSD (Layered Subset Difference) which reduces the number of keys by almost a square root while increasing the number of messages only by a small constant.
In addition, we show how to generalize the construction to any privileged set defined by $r$ inclusion and exclusion conditions on the vertices of the user tree.

But "Wanda at Large" plays like a sitcom built around a string of stand-up jokes and not a comedy that has depth or heart.
