 Welcome back, Tina Brown
Carter and Brown are said to be fierce rivals, not only because Talk competed directly against Vanity Fair but because Carter, who inherited his job from Brown, never forgave her for winning the editorship of The New Yorker, a post he coveted.
Tina Brown, the English-speaking world's most famous editor, is returning to the workforce as a lowly writer.
After Talk suspended publication in January immediately following its Golden Globes party, Brown stayed on with Miramax as chairwoman of Talk Miramax Books.

Neil Postman, in a talk entitled Informing Ourselves To Death spoke about the information facing Americans: “In America, there are 260,000 billboards; 11,520 newspapers; 11,556 periodicals; 27,000 video outlets for renting tapes; 362 million tv sets; and over 400 million radios.

APSA Australian Political Studies Association 43rd Annual Conference 2001: Conference Proceedings
Talkback radio allowed him unfiltered access to listeners; to ‘talk to Australians over the heads of the press gallery, whose members are generally better informed, ask more difficult questions and many of whom’ he considered antagonistic or pro-Labor (Steketee 2001).
While talkback radio may have an older, more conservative audience, and the Howard Government a marked preference for using talkback as a means of political communication, it would be clearly wrong to suggest that the coalition has received praise alone on the airwaves.
Hutchby (1991, 1) has observed that talkback radio programs generally are ‘notorious for generating a high degree of controversial and confrontational talk between their hosts and their callers’ and Lewis (1992, 85) believes that Australian talkback is permeated by an ‘aggressive masculinity’.

3AK - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
What then followed was a constantly changing program format as 3AK went to easy listening, talk back, talkback with easy listening, and then in 1990 the station was sold to businessman Peter Corso who virtually shutdown the station and sacked its entire workforce and relaunched the station as Australia's first commercial Italian-language radio station.
Six months later, 3AK and Sydney radio station 2UE embarked on a networked talkback format where talk programs were broadcast across both stations.
In the 1950s 3AK went from an overnight station to a daytime station, restricting itself to close transmission in the early evening as it was discovered that 3AK's signal, on the same frequency as a New South Wales regional station 2BS Bathurst, was causing interference.

The motivation for the investigation of I/U reeducation collaborations was a talk given to the WGSEET by Dennis Frailey [Frailey 98] in which he described a collaborative software engineering reeducation program between Raytheon and several Dallas area universities.
Thus, the construction of a collaborative relationship between industry and academic partners to reeducate a portion of the existing non-software workforce seems to be a logical and natural solution to providing a larger software engineering workforce.
Another goal is to provide feedback on which areas of software engineering knowledge and skills are most easily transferred to the student practitioners and applied in the workplace, in order to understand how well the student practitioners are able to internalize the material and apply it on the job.

WeeklyDig : > MFA guards trump stingy management, win new contract
In recent years, the guards’ numbers have been slashed, and their union feared that the MFA wanted to turn the guards into a part-time, benefit-less workforce with only limited access to overtime hours.
Last week, the MFA guards ratified a new contract after months of trading tough talk and nasty looks with management.
And while the contract guarantees real raises, not the 1 percent pay boost the MFA had originally offered, union president Michael Raysson believes the most important details of the new contract are the ones that aren’t there—the guards successfully beat back the MFA’s benefit and overtime takeaways.
