December 14, 2004 - CTV's got a licence to let us down by Antonia Zerbisias
Consider that talktv was licensed in 1996 as a service "devoted to talk programming providing viewers with the opportunity to participate through telephone, fax or Internet, as well as live television hook-ups, in discussion and debate about topics and issues that interest and affect all Canadians."
Now talktv is a dead end for chatroom reruns and recycled CTV programs, past and present, including Vicki Gabereau and Camilla.
It was local culture blogger Marc Weisblott (www.betterlivingcentre.ca) who caught on to the false promise of the service, which costs subscribers up to seven cents a month wholesale.

The Telekino Times-Picayune: MTV Canada, or Dancing About Architecture
This new channel is basically just a rebranding of CTV's 24-hour talk channel, launched as TalkTV a few years ago and then left to neglect.
Their flagship program was called The Chatroom which was a five-hour live broadcast of semi-hip young people trying to seem even hipper than they were; it was kind of like being trapped in a perpetual martini lounge set up during a Young Conservative or Young Liberal convention, except without the martinis.
By late 2001, TalkTV decided to pull the plug on creating new installments of yammering and were content to just rerun old Chatrooms, making the channel 100% recycled content - and this went on for years.

But CTV executives told the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission that music videos and clips will not be shown on MTV, and the network will adhere to the original programming promises it made when talktv went on the air in 1996.
