Tallaght (Tamhlacht in Irish) is a large town and suburban area at the foot of the Dublin - Wicklow mountains.
Tallaght is connected to Dublin city centre by extensive Dublin Bus services and the Red Line of the Luas light rail system, opened in September 2004.
Tallaght is in the Dublin South West Dáil constituency.

The village of Tallaght lies about seven miles to the south-west of the City of Dublin on the high road, now traversed by a steam tramway, from the metropolis to the town of Blessington in the County Wicklow, and forms the centre of the largest parish in the County Dublin.
Tallaght is spoken of by a Celtic writer as one of the chief cemeteries of ancient Erin, and the origin of the name has been attributed to the interment there of a number of the descendants of the first colonists of Ireland.
It was in his Castle of Tallaght that he died in 1471, and amongst the possessions mentioned in his will are a habit with a suitable hood in the keeping of the Constable of 'Tallaght and two stacks of corn in the haggard there.

A collaboration between St. Maelruain and St. Aengus, the Martyrology of Tallaght is a prose catalogue of Irish saints, and is the oldest of the Irish martyrologies.

A.M. Tallaght is situated in the barony of Uppercross, 5 miles south of Dublin.
In 1179 Tallaght, with its subsidiary chapels of Killohan and St. Bride's, was united to the Archdiocese of Dublin by a Bull of Alexander III (20 April, 1179).
In 1324 Alexander de Bicker built or restored an archiepiscopal manor at Tallaght, which was fortified later to protect the English in Dublin from the attacks of the O'Byrnes.

William Rafferty representing Institute of Technology Tallaght won the 2001 Intel Excellence in Electronics competition with a prize of £1000.
The National finals of the Intel Excellence competition are based on a theory exam, a 10 hour practical project and a verbal presentation of the project.
First, second and third prizes were given out at each local competition and the prize fund given out for local competitions was nearly £4000.

Dublin's Tallaght Hospital has proposed that it should house the proposed national children's hospital to be located in the city.
Tallaght Hospital Board Vice Chairman Prof Ian Graham said that if the decision is made to house the new hospital in Tallaght, it will strengthen the planned links with St James's.
In a reference to the bid from The Mater/Temple Street to house the new hospital, Tallaght has said it would be particularly illogical to move the current children's hospitals at Tallaght and Crumlin to the inner city.

Doctors in Tallaght Hospital, Dublin, have mooted the idea of Crumlin Hospital moving to the Tallaght campus, amid speculation over the relocation of Crumlin and a new strategic plan for Tallaght.
Tallaght Medical Board Chairman Dr Sean Tierney would not be drawn on the contents of the strategy document, but he told IMN that the Medical Board would welcome Crumlin to the Tallaght campus.
In addition, he said Tallaght already had an independent children’s hospital operating there; the Hospital had experience of merging it into the group; and it had good public transport and road access.
