	taluka
		A Taluka is an administrative and geographical block consisting of an average of 80-100 contiguous villages.
		My Institute Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) did a study for Phaltan Taluka in Western Maharashtra, where it was shown that all the energy needs of the Taluka for 2000 AD could be supplied by the use of its biomass resources.
		The study also showed that Taluka has adequate amount of other biomass derived materials like night soil, vegetable waste, weeds, municipal solid waste and animal/chicken manure that which can be processed via technologies like vermiculture, composting and generally husbanding them so that they yield excellent fertilizer for the farmers.

		A study done for Phaltan Taluka in western Maharashtra has shown that all its energy needs of electricity, liquid fuels etc. can be met by judicious use of agricultural residues and other biomass resources grown in Taluka.
		The average area of a Taluka is ~ 1000-1500 km² and its total population is between 200,000 to 250,000.
		Since the area of Taluka and the number of vehicles running are small, we think it is possible to manage this issue.

		The GR has specifically identified 67 such talukas where groundwaters are scarce and not potable.
		Giving a breakup, the GR says, 40 talukas come under the "over-exploited" category, where the drawal is more than the recharge, as compared to 31 in 1997, 24 in 1991 and a mere five in 1984, when the first-ever survey was carried out to identify the areas where the groundwater sources were becoming scarce.
		Thus, as many as eight talukas of Mehsana district fall under "over-exploited" category, followed by seven of Banaskantha, four each of of Patan and Gandhinagar, two each of Ahmedabad and Junagadh, and one of Sabarkantha.

		Other talukas of Surendranagar district such as Halvad, Lakhtar, Wadhvan, Sayla and Dasada received between 125 mm and 161 mm of rainfall.
		A similar situation prevailed in Palanpur, Vadgam, Dantiwada, Tharad and Vav talukas of Banaskantha district.

		Malvan taluka is the most important fish landing area of Sindhudurg district, followed by Deogad and Vengurla.
		The leatherback turtle was encountered near the Malvan taluka and less in the Vengurla and Deogad talukas.
		There are some conservation efforts for marine turtles in Deogad taluka (Padvane and Tambeldeg villages) where the forest department and local people have come together to protect the nests of the marine turtles.

	HYDERABAD: Demand for city district comprising three talukas -DAWN - Local; 11 January, 2005
		They said under section-8 of the SLGO, city district governments could be created when population of talukas concerned exceeded one million, more than 66 per cent of the population was associated with trade and industry and services and the administrative structure was insufficient to run administrative functions and resolve problems of people.

	An intervention involving traditional birth attendants and perinatal and maternal mortality in Pakistan
		In three talukas randomly assigned to the intervention group, traditional birth attendants were trained and issued disposable delivery kits; Lady Health Workers linked traditional birth attendants with established services and documented processes and outcomes; and obstetrical teams provided outreach clinics for antenatal care.
		RESULTS: Of the estimated number of eligible women in the seven talukas, 10,114 (84.3 percent) were recruited in the three intervention talukas, and 9443 (78.7 percent) in the four control talukas.
		As compared with the control talukas, the intervention talukas had a cluster-adjusted odds ratio for perinatal death of 0.70 (95 percent confidence interval, 0.59 to 0.82) and for maternal mortality of 0.74 (95 percent confidence interval, 0.45 to 1.23).

		For Lathi taluka in Amreli district and other areas of Saurashtra, 550 km from Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam at Navagam in Narmada district, the wait has been 40 years long.
		A spate in the Narmada river due to heavy rainfall in catchment areas in Madhya Pradesh has ensured that the dam, 98-metre-high at present, is overflowing.

		Shahapur is one of the talukas of Thane dist. That comes under southern part of the dist. Shahapur taluka is close to Bhiwandi and Kalyan industrial and urbanized talukas of the same dist. Mumbai-Agra NH.
		The taluka has 233 villages and 418 tribal hamlets that are situated either in the Sahyadri ranges or behind the ranges.
		Percentage of literacy is about 25 to 30 in the talukas of the whole dist. Literacy rate is very worst in the tribal padas.

		Khandesh is mainly comprising of two districts Dhulia and Jalgaon and the three talukas Malegaon, Nandgaon and Baglan of Nashik District with headquarter at Dhulia.
		In 1869 the three talukas above referred were transfered to the newly formed district Nashik.
		In the year 1887 the Headquarter of Pimpalner taluka was transfered to Sakri and in 1908 the name was also changed to Sakri Taluka.

		Although the local government was busy draining out the rainwater, the overall situation in the worst-affected Talukas of Hyderabad district could not be described as satisfactory.
		Relief goods, including rations, food and drinking water, were being distributed under the supervision of Army, and union council Nazims have been asked to oversee the relief distribution process in their respective Talukas.
		Women at one of the relief camps in Qasimabad complained to The News that they were not being provided with ration at the relief camp, but Army officers said ration bags were being supplied to the rain victims at their doorsteps to avoid malpractice.
