Today, Talulah Gosh are more famous (infamous?) than they were when they existed way back in 86-87, before they spawned the infamous darlings of pop, Heavenly.
Accused of being too cute, much like their counterparts Beat Happening, Talulah Gosh were a nasty group of sly hipsters.
Backwash is a collection of the Talulah Gosh singles, the Rock Legends 69 lp, their Peel Session and various live recordings.

Talulah Gosh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Talulah Gosh were a guitar-pop group from Oxford, England and one of the leading bands of the twee pop movement, taking their name from the headline of an NME interview with Clare Grogan.
What was to be Talulah Gosh's last single, a Ramones-like punk thrash titled "Testcard Girl" (very loosely based on an old Heinz advertising jingle), was released in May. The group split later that year.
Amelia and Mathew Fletcher and Peter Momtchiloff regrouped as Heavenly in late 1989 with Talulah Gosh co-founder Rob Pursey also returning to the fold.

 Talulah Gosh & Heavenly story
Talulah formed in Oxford in the middle of '86, in the fall-out from NME's "C86" compilation [a one-hour free tape of lots of 12-string Rickenbacker bands and twee janglers, incl.
The venue's promoter (speaking in the NME) said "we used to put Talulah Gosh on, and these wankers used to stand at the front and just leer....it was fucking horrible".
After the break-up of Talulah Gosh in 1988, Amelia, Matthew and Peter re-formed, while still in Oxford, in the summer of 1989, as Heavenly, The line-up was completed with the addition of the original 'Gosh bassist Robert.

Unlike many of their shambling co-conspirators, the Goshes crafted music surprising in its complexity; "Talulah Gosh" flows smoothly from a gentle bridge into an adrenalized chorus, "Bringing Up Baby" wraps gossamer harmonies around a syncopated rhythm, and the brilliant "I Can't Get No Satisfaction (Thank God)" sports a Byrds-worthy jangle riff.

The band bowed in March 1986, opening for the Razorcuts; their introductory song was "Pastels Badge," a celebration of their origins.
Soon Talulah Gosh made their recording debut with "I Told You So," one side of a split flexi-disc with the Razorcuts issued on the tiny Sha-La-La label (whose owner, Matt Haynes, went on to co-found the highly influential Sarah Records imprint).
With Eithne Farry sharing vocal duties, Talulah Gosh returned to the studio in 1987 to record their second EP, Where's the Cougar Matey; a single, "Testcard Girl," followed, but after a final John Peel session, the group splintered in February 1988 to allow its members to continue their university careers.

It's simple: Amelia Fletcher and her brother Matthew formed Talulah Gosh in 1986.
Centered in their home town of Oxford, England, Talulah Gosh included Peter Momtchiloff, grand guitar controller and the delightful Liz Price, vocal princess; Chris Scott was selected for bass duties.
The basic core of Amelia, Matthew and Peter regrouped as Heavenly in 1990, adding Rob Pursey on bass (he played with Talulah Gosh for their first few shows) and Cathy Rogers on keyboards.

 Backwash by Talulah Gosh CD
The band was active from 1986 to 1988, after which most of the members went on to form the sublime '90s pop band Heavenly.
Taking their name from a magazine headline about Altered Images' Claire Grogan--also the subject of the song "Talulah Gosh" (which appears here in two versions)--and writing songs like "The Day She Lost Her Pastels Badge" that namecheck the band's biggest influences, Talulah Gosh's theme was the everyday life of pop-obsessed indie kids in late-'80s England.
Young--drummer Mathew Fletcher was 16 and his singing sister Amelia wasn't much older--and sometimes only barely competent, Talulah Gosh had an unaffected, shambolic charm and an innate sense of how and why good pop worked which makes this unpolished music sound better than almost all of the era's chart hits.

 Heavenly
Heavenly emerged in 1989 from the rubble of the celebrated late-80's twee-punk outfit Talulah Gosh, retaining that band's exuberant Ramones-meet-the-Ronettes energy while moving in a more thoughtful, grown-up direction.
During the course of their existence, Heavenly inspired a fanatical following, and for good reason: the music they created was pop in its most evolved form.
It's a gorgeous document of high-octane jangle which represents the transition from Talulah Gosh's toothier sound to Heavenly's signature crashpop.
