It spans the River Tamar between Saltash (my home town), and Plymouth in Devon, carrying the A38, one of the 2 major trunk roads into (and out of!!) Cornwall.
The tunnel leading up to the Tamar Road Bridge on the Saltash side has recently been closed for major re-lining work, as the original lining was cracking.
The deck on the southern (downstream) side of the bridge is used exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists (except in emergencies, when it can be changed and used for traffic), and makes a very pleasant walk.

 Plymouth, Tamar Road Bridge
A bridge across the river Tamar in the area of Plymouth was first mooted by some local businessmen as long ago as 1823.
The first bus to cross the bridge was a Western National Omnibus Company vehicle on the route 76 to Callington shortly after 5.30am.
The Bridge was officially opened by HRH the Queen Mother on April 26th 1962 when she cut a tape on the Plymouth side and walked across the bridge to meet the Mayor of Saltash on the Cornish side of the river.

Stay on the A38, bypassing Plymouth, and cross over the Tamar Bridge into Cornwall.
Having crossed the River Tamar into Cornwall, take the A374 out of Torpoint for about 6 miles until you reach the village of Sheviock.
Coming via the Tamar Bridge is probably a bit quicker, even though it's a bit further.
