Reports from Japan have revealed that approximately 18,000 chickens have died of avian influenza during the past two weeks on a farm in Tamba, Kyoto Prefecture in southwestern Japan.
However, officials feared AI had already spread to a slaughterhouse in neighboring Hyogo prefecture after 25 birds there tested positive for the virus in initial tests on Saturday.
However, meat from 10 birds was delivered to a restaurant in Osaka, the Hyogo government said in a statement.

Apparently the small “Cho” was once even considered as a suitable replacement for moving the capital from Nara, however some city planner with incredible foresight probably decided that the surrounding mountains would preclude any possibility of zoning an international airport - a thousand odd years into the future.

Experts said it is highly likely that the crows were infected with the virus near the chicken farms in the town of Tamba hit by the bird flu outbreak, adding they do not believe the crows transmitted the virus to the chickens.
