One of the reason that the people from Chennai may appear to be rude/arrogant is because they tend to be protective of themselves: The northies and even southies from other states tend to be Condescending and denigrating of Tamilians due to the color of their skin (though no body will dare to accept this.
There is a general image that Tamilians (and Chennai folks) are Tamil fanatics while thr truth is that people in places like Bangalore are more Kannada fanatic.
But take the Kannadigas, they are intentional fanatics just because they cannot take Tamilians speaking in Tamil in their city.

The show was marketed as if a south indian musical show (which you wud have seen their sample advertisement mail that i have posted last time.) so many tamilians bought the ticket and visited.
But the show was in hindi and few tamils songs were played for the sake of tamilians as an eye wash. If they would have marketed the show as hindi then there would not be much of tamil crowd.
This is mails is my personal view and some of the other tamilians view who have attend the show.

If I meet a tamilian I would be more comfortable talking to him in tamil than in english - unless of course I meet a Peter or a Mary!
Coming back to the point, the basic problem with us tamilians is that we tend to think of Hindi as an alien language and do not even want to make an attempt to learn it or use it (I had this exact feeling till I came here to the US).
Our politicians are the only one to blame for this - but they dont have to go out of the state to interact with people from other parts of India, it is people like us who have to do that on a daily basis.
