Tammi was a great performer, she always touched her fans, she always would go out in the audience and dance with them, let them sing with her, she loved her fans, and great performer, she didn't need Motown Charm School for that.
Tammi just let the headaches go for awhile, she just thought she was going through the pressure, she had bad headaches, blinding headaches, she didn't take much headache pills which would help her but because she didn't want to become addicted to them, so at first she didn't do nothing about it.
Tammi Terrell, bound for Detroit and her first recording date in nearly two years, was, in fact, returning to show business from near death.

Terrell was born Thomasina Montgomery in Philadelphia on April 29, 1945, after winning a number of local talent contest, by the age of 13 she was regularly opening club dates for acts including Gary "U.S." Bonds and Patti LaBelle And the Blue Belles.
Later in 1967, Terrell begin to have severe migraine headaches and she collapsed in Gaye's arms while in concert at Virginia's Hampton-Sydney University, she was rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
In 1969, Terrell' health was begining to decline and she was unable to finish with the third duet album, Valerie Simpson sang on most of the recordings on the "Easy" album.

His chemistry with Terrell was immediate and in 1967, they entered the pop Top 20 with the magnificent "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," the first in a series of lush, sensual hits authored by the husband-and-wife team of Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson.

Tammi Terrell (born Thomasina Montgomery) (April 29, 1945 – March 16, 1970) was an American Motown singer in the 1960s, best known for her duets with Marvin Gaye.
Rumors persist that Terrell's condition was either brought on, or worsened by, domestic abuse from her live-in boyfriend, Temptations singer David Ruffin.
While Ruffin and Terrell did fight, it was never proven that Ruffin abused her severely enough to damage her in such a way.

Tammi Terrell Died on the 16th of March 1970 as a result of the tumor and her funeral attracted thousands of mourners from all corners of the music world.

This and the next three songs feature background vocals by the Shirelles, but they and Tammi were never in the studio simultaneously; the Shirelles sang those songs themselves, and the same instrumental and background tracks were used in Tammi's versions.
Tammi sang "I Cried" in a soft and sad tone, but she belts this song.
It's nice to hear Tammi's voice, unedited, singing the parts that would later be cut and replaced with Marvin's vocals.

When you mention Tammi Terrell around Philadelphia, those that knew her have fond memories.
She was briefly married to boxer Ernie Terrell, brother of ex-Supreme Jean Terrell (one other source states that she was not married to him; only that she took the name because it was shorter than Montgomery).
After Tammi Terrell’s death, Marvin Gaye spent time in seclusion and did not work for three years thereafter.

Although her illness brought an end to her ability to perform live, she continued to record with Gaye and as a solo performer (Irresistible, 1968) until it was no longer physically possible.
Apparently, it was neccessary for much of the two later Gaye/Terrell albums to be created by Gaye overdubbing onto existing Terrell tracks, and a number of songs on Easy had to be ghost-sung by producer Valerie Simpson.
The still very young Terrell endured eight unsuccessful operations before the tumor finally claimed her life in March of 1970.

You Got What It Takes (not great, but Tammi's "What?" in reply to "Nature didn't give you such a beautiful face" is pretty sweet)
The disc is patchy but the highs are essential.
Disc 2 contains the worthless Marvin & Valerie Easy, along with the original Terrell solo versions on to which Marvin overdubbed his vocals, which are worth hearing at most once.
