She was known as the "First Lady of Country Music" and one of her best-known songs was "Stand by Your Man," which was one of the biggest selling hit singles by a woman in the history of the music genre.
Tammy Wynette was born Virginia Wynette Pugh near Tremont, Mississippi, the only child of William Hollis Pugh (died February 13, 1943) and Mildred Faye Russell (1922–1991).
She recorded a song with the British electronica group The KLF in late 1991 titled "Justified and Ancient (Stand by the JAMs)," which became a number one hit in eighteen countries the following year.

I gave this album 3 stars because there are three songs on it that are touching and magnificiently done (including one done by Tammy herself).
I once saw an interview in which Tammy said something to the effect of, "if a man insists on singing that song, he should at least say, 'it MUST be hard to be a woman.'" Sadly, Elton didn't take her advice.

It says a lot for Tammy's talents that she got as much airplay as she did, though nothing like as much as she deserved.
The remaining songs are (as far as I know) all originals except Going going gone (a cover of a Sherrie Austin song, from her album, Following a feeling) and include the country hits If you can, So what and Angels are waiting, a song inspired by her brothers who were the victims of cystic fibrosis.
When Tammy sings the lyrics, "they always knew they'd never grow old...", it's because the life span for those who are born with this, isn't as long as it should be.

The harmonies are really nice, and the song has kind of an edge due to the emotional lyrics.
I read the song info and see the notes about an abusive relationship and this song does not bring that forward musically to me. I't sounds and feels much more like a guy who is pissed off at his woman.
I agree with you about the male vocals on Silence, unfortunately the band I recorded this song with, Mark was the lead vocalist and insisted on singing it, one day I will re-record it with me singing it and hopefully that will change the feel of the song to the way it was intended.
