Tanakh [תנ״ך;] (also spelt Tanach or Tenach) is an acronym for the three parts of the Hebrew Bible, based upon the initial Hebrew letters of each part:
The Tanach consists of 24 books, while the Christian Old Testament (excluding the deuterocanonical book/ apocrypha) has 39 books; they both contain the same text but divide it into books differently: Jews often count as a single book what Christians count as several.

TEACHING TANACH TO NON-HEBREW SPEAKING STUDENTS
In teaching Tanach we are primarily interested in the "chinuch" of the student by acquisition of concepts from Torah and Prophets.
The division of Tanach into perakim (except for Tehilim) is a Christian division, usually technical, and there is no reason why we should ask ourselves, "What did the cardinal mean when he established this unit as a perek?".
The division of Tanach into parshiot, both open and closed, is a Jewish division on which it is worthwhile to base instruction.

Such an analysis is facilitated by concordances, special dictionary-like elaborations of the text, which consist of lists of identical word-forms in their textual environment thus enabling the researcher to study words (and concepts reflected by these words) as well as longer expressions (and more complex concepts) in all their occurences.
The result is something similar to a hypothetical dictionary of, say, the music of Beethoven, where, in addition to a list of all the musical sounds (and their environments) used by the composer, all the rhythmic patterns of his music, regardless of the tunes they are realized in, are listed.
Similarly, this Tanach Cantillation Concordance offers the researcher the chance to view not only the words and their environment of the biblical text, but also all the possible combinations of the cantillation marks, i.e., all the possible structural cantillation units of public reading.

This week we looked at the Tanach's description of the mother of Samson, who was also the wife of Manoach.
Her name, although it is not directly given in Tanach, was Hatzlelponi (more on this later).
The Tanach mentions that Manoach "walked after his wife." We have a principle that, for reasons of sexual propriety, men should not walk directly behind women.

The Tanach or Tanakh is the Hebrew language acronym for the Jewish Bible, taking its name from the initial letters of its three main sections, the Torah, Neviim, and Ketuvim.

The Torah is the first part of the TaNaCH.
Although most of the individual books of the TaNaCH were written well before the third century BCE, it wasn't until 90 CE in the city of Yavneh that they were all brought together.

Messiah Truth: A Jewish Response to Missionary Groups
Remember that the English translation of the Tanach (which they call the “Old Testament”) in nearly every Christian Bible is taken from the Septuagint, one of many Greek translations that differed considerably from the Masoretic text.
Even the earliest English translation of the JPS Tanach (Jewish Publication Society) was a slightly modified version of the Old Testament found in the King James Bible, instead of a direct translation of the original Hebrew which accompanied it.
Messianic Verses in Tanach: Missionaries quote Hebrew Scriptures to support their contention that "Jesus fulfilled 300 prophecies from the Old Testament." Here you can read how these quotes are either mistranslated, taken out of context, or both.

However, it is translated as "You shall not kill." I have not done extensive reaserch into other possible mistakes, but if a big part of the Torah like this is incorrectly Translated, then there may be other misnomers as well.

 Messiah and Tanach
This page shows Jews who are wrestling with their spirituality how to look at the Tanach (Hebrew scriptures) on its own terms, instead of trying to force it into a prediction of Jesus or a Christ type of messiah.
Missionaries reply that this plural meaning holds only with the "seed" of a man (though why this should be so they do not explain.) They say that because the Genesis 3 verse refers to the seed of a woman, it must be singular and refer to Jesus.
As the Tanach does not speak of any second coming of Messiah, even that hope has little basis.
