  Tandy Center Subway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Tandy Center Subway operated in Fort Worth, Texas from 1963 to 2002.
It ran a distance of 0.7 miles (1.1 km) and was, during the period of its operation, one of only two privately owned subways in the United States, the other being the Newark City Subway in New Jersey.
The Tandy Center Subway ceased operation on August 30, 2002, becoming the last privately-owned subway system in the United States.

Tandy's son, Charles D. Tandy, turned it into a leathercraft company when shoe rationing in World War II almost killed the business, and later expanded into selling leather and tools to make such products as wallets.
Tandy's IBM PC compatibles, the Tandy 1000 and Tandy 2000, were cheaper than the IBM PC and yet featured built-in, and better, sound and graphics.
The original Tandy 1000 was a large computer similar in size to the IBM PC, though with a plastic case to reduce weight.

The Tandy Center in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, consists of a set of two 20-story office towers, the headquarters of Radio Shack[?] (Tandy Corporation); an indoor shopping mall, and an indoor ice skating rink.
In 1996 the mall portion of the complex was turned into an outlet store center.
Until recently the subway line still operated, serving the single underground station at the Tandy Center office complex and three stations in the parking lots, and was apparently the only privately owned subway system in the United States.

The Tandy Subway ran northward along Taylor Street from an underground station between Weatherford and 2nd Streets (next to the entrance to the Tandy Center shopping mall) to a portal in the Trinity River bluff, then westward through a large parking lot along the river.
From the exit, one could turn left to the Tandy Center and the Fort Worth Outlet Square on the east side of Taylor Street; or right to the sunken outdoor plaza of the Tandy Technology Center on the west side of Taylor.

Although excitement is in the air surrounding moving to the new headquarters campus two blocks to the north, a complex as legendary and full-of-1970s-funk as the Tandy Center certainly must have seen its fair share of quirks and stories.
Years later when the entirety of the headquarters was within the Tandy Center, his workplace changed many times in the complex until finally settling on the 3rd floor.
